Talk To The Audience?!? Episode 5
Added 2017-10-30 04:15:31 +0000 UTC
It's a brand-new Talking Simpsons community podcast, just in time for Halloween! (Note: this episode has very little to do with Halloween.) Listen in as we discuss our respective travels to the Portland Retro Gaming Expo and New York Comic-Con, get grossed out by a segment from the latest Treehouse of Horror, and gab about The Simpsons' latest hire! And, as always, we respond to your questions and comments from this month's episodes. Attach the Stone of Triumph and listen immediately!
You've read two of my comments now! I notice when I talk about my kids you tend to read them more, so unlike everyone I've ever met, (who's eyes glaze over at the mere mention of my devil spawn) you like to hear about them! They really really love the Simpsons, so that's a huge plus. They're also really enjoying Batman the Animated Series, and I would suggest you give that a shot and maybe pick the two part Harvey/Two Face episodes as a starter. My kids felt really bad for Harvey and the pathos on their sad little faces was totally worth it.

Big Mouth is actually a good show. It goes into sexuality and identity in a pretty nuanced way. I would definitely recommend it.

I'm kinda interested in watching the new Treehouse of Horror based on what you guys talked about. I suppose it's common knowledge/sense, but I find the Treehouse of Horror episodes had a much better shelf-life than the show itself did, or at least I remember still liking some of the segments as the show got into the teens and was really subpar. But who knows, it was over a decade ago at this point and I could have just had crap taste.

Hey, I didn't check out this years' Treehouse of Horror, but your description of Homer eating himself sounds like a very close analog to a Steven King short story called Survivor Type. In the story, a dude runs out of food on an island and slowly goes crazy as he's eating himself - including his toes and fingers... Sounds pretty similar!

I’m really curious when you get to season 12-ish and the episodes stop being ones you quote from memory and start being ones you are seeing for the first-ish time.

I really liked this year's Treehouse of Horror and appreciated that the segment you discussed made me kind of squirm in my seat. I actually thought all three segments were pretty strong, when typically (for modern Simpsons) you might get one good one out of three.

Apparently the hold up for Evangelion TV being rereleased is the 4th of the new movies that still isn't out. The rights are tied to that.

I don't know if the reference was deliberate, but the Homer-eats-himself THOH is very reminiscent of a Stephen King short story called "Survivor Type" in which a guy (he's like a doctor for the mob, or something) crashes on a desert island with a bunch of drugs and starts cutting off parts of his body and eating them. It's a pretty good story!
