In the book the main character is bisexual and the whole movie is about him trying to kill his toxic masculinity ( Brad Pitt's Character ) and become an emotionally and psychologically healthier bisexual man. The author is actually a liberal gay man who currently lives in Portland, Oregon ( right across the bridge from me LOL ). Also, the author hates that his works are so commonly viewed as nihilistic as he views them as more romantic and considers himself a romantic and not a nihilist.
