Question for the next game protagonist

That really hard to do and would take a lot of work so it's not really an option. I was taking data if I made like slightly darker skin guy if players would dislike it

Perhaps light skin tone, mid, and then dark skin tone to help others who may not feel they identify with the skin color of the character? There are games, where the character might be of Indian (India) descent, perhaps Middle Eastern and of a darker complexion. Having that skin tone, darker but not black nor white of course, so you would be going down the middle to some degree to help people from all sides better identify with the character. Perfect examples would be Sun Breed or Desert Stalker. Shoot, being a Native American might be a cool switch for an MC. You could even create some fantastical story lines around Native Americans.
