We readers - as well as the characters in the show - also have no personal invetment when it comes to the Gorosei. Their combat prowess won't be that crazy/that important in the series. Akainu is already set up to be the main guy when it comes to the Government side. That's been pretty much set up by him ending Ace, as well as giving Luffy his huge scar that he holds when he finds out that he became fleet admiral. The Gorosei will have their moment at the end I'm sure, but not as fighters.

Being a Marine in OP gotta be rough tbh. On one side, pirates are actual problems, we're just following one of the few crews that ain't brutal monstrous murderers so they should be standing up to fight these crazy criminals but on the other end, the gov is mad shady and they on some dark stuff like any other gov too tbh so its gotta be like picking the lesser of 2 evils if you wanna impact the world and you gotta get high enough up to where you can make those decisions of your own without anyone trying to stop you like Garp or Aokiji. I hope it wasn't a throwaway line when ol boy told Coby to get stronger and become a big shot that changes all this
