Thought I'd add some more non-spoiler details you might like: - One Piece is one continuous storyline (even though it has "arc"'s like any other show), where stuff happening right now can be important in literally 100 episodes (and it doesn't feel like an asspull). So for the most part (unless it's filler or a movie) there aren't really any Bad Guys of the Week/Episode, that kinda flavor. - Almost every named character has some unique quirks about them: whether it's the laugh, or their ridiculous (or cool) appearance, or even an animal like Chouchou's ridiculous bark xD. - ^ Luffy's signature laugh is "shi shi shi shi", that kind of sound. "Shi" is japanese (and kinda chinese since that's where it comes from) for death. In other words, Luffy literally laughs in the face of death. One Piece's author thinks of these little details.
