The Boy, The Mole, The Fox, and the Horse: Movie FULL LENGTH Reaction! PATREON COMMISSION!

*WORTHY HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

When I started this short film patron Nicholas commissioned, I had no idea the emotional catharsis it would lead me towards - seriously, every child should see this movie...but pretty much any adult should also give it a look...and shed some tears over it as well. A simple, adorable, emotional gut punch to start our countdown to the end of the year!

Thank you for the comment and kind words! This went a whole other direction than I expected, but in the best way! I've gotten the novel now digitally and it's adorable! The VA's are so good in this and the art style is just so whimsical and "cozy!" I LOVE the theme of kindness as resistance! I like to think of that one, especially because kindness is often called a weakness, but it's really not. In opposition to rudeness and snark, kindness really is a river running through the concrete of hatred, isn't it? And self-acceptance. I love that the animals all thought they had flaws, but by the end not only accepted them but realized they were excepted by others BECAUSE of them. And yes, as a self-described perfectionist at times, that line really hit home. So true about profiting from insecurity! The found family theme at the end really got me, too! Nicholas did so well with this commission; I loved it and I cannot wait for more this month! Thank you!

Loved the reaction and discussion! This was a wonderful ride. And glad to see the work moved you just as much, I really wasn’t expecting it to bowl me over, either. 🥰 There isn’t much more to say about how absolutely beautiful the artstyle is! And I really appreciated the voice work of the VAs – especially Idris Elba as the Fox. Now themes of resistance? 😆 Still ever-present. I think most interesting to me in this one is the idea of kindness as a resistance. Especially when it is so often perceived as naivete or weakness, in opposition to rudeness and snark being seen as cleverness and sophistication. And then also the theme of self-acceptance. The four show this kind of reflex to try to hide and shrink themselves and they work to fight against it. My favourite line, I think, is: “The greatest illusion… is that life should be perfect.” Where within our cultures so much is built on profiting from insecurity, accepting imperfection is difficult but important. I love that ultimately the Boy stayed with his true family – the ones who uplift him. 🥹 Thank you to Nicolas for another amazing commission! 🥰 Cannot wait for next week! 💙
