MILLENNIUM ACTRESS: Movie FULL LENGTH Reaction! PATREON COMMISSION!

*CHASING HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

Y'all know I love a Satoshi Kon film and patron Sean has commissioned one that's been on my "to-watch" list for a WHILE! This film, despite being remarkably "grounded," connects the surreal with reality so well and tells a heartfelt story that truly embodies the journey being just as important as the destination...if not more, sometimes!

MILLENNIUM ACTRESS: Movie FULL LENGTH Reaction! PATREON COMMISSION!

Comments

Thank you so much for the comment and kind words - this film is so beautiful!! And yes, such a feast for the eyes! I’m sooooo happy to keep the Satoshi Kon library growing! Genya being a fanboy is so sweet! And yes, the meta and fourth wall breaking elements and blending the surreal with reality was so fun! Also, I could not get over The Substance parallels…I’m convinced that creator watched this movie!! Ahahaha, It’s fun to see the Wind Breaker connections being made, here! And thank you for the kind words on the theater discussion! Quite a few themes of resistance indeed - and YES, I love that Chiyoko’s romance and her “chase” was actually linked to her self acceptance and her rebellion against what was expected of her and what she became along the journey of that rebellion. It’s so well done! Sean really did it great for the commission this month! I absolutely loved it and am so excited about the December commissions!

Ohhh, I could see that - there’s so much emotion with this film; it even got me, too! I just love Satoshi’s tie to the surreal but it has a backing to it and a foundation grounded in reality and the human experience. I just adore his vision! I love the idea of a person’s life as a story! We are living books; yesss! And Orb comes to mind – I’d rather think of that than Fahrenheit 451! ;) I like to think she realized as well but kept the hunt going because of what it meant to her. Oh wow, yes, looking through photos is such a journey - it definitely does give a context to time and for us to tell our stories! That’s such a powerful message, yes! The music is so good in this film! And wowwwww, I didn’t connect that he did the soundtrack for Berserk! How Iconic!! And oh wow, that is WILD that there’s a Berserk track reused for this film - considering the budget, that doesn’t surprise me in hindsight, but how cool! I love that connection. I feel you on the circle of life “shit n stuff” - honestly Caitlin Dougherty (Ask a Mortician) has really helped me cope with that existential dread. Thank you for the comment and kind words!

Loved the reaction and discussion! This is such a gorgeous film, just a feast for the eyes. And so glad the Satoshi Kon library of reactions is growing. 🥰 Various things I loved: Genya being such a sweet fanboy Agree with how fun the meta elements of the film were and how inventive in terms of weaving this into the narrative The Substance parallels The history of theatre/playwriting and performance elements in the discussion – very interesting! The Wind Breaker reference is noted, no further comment at this time 🥰 Themes of resistance? 😆 Yet again, quite a few. I especially love the way the “romance” of the film is actually disguised resistance – Chiyoko’s ‘chase’ is about obtaining selfhood and is her rebellion (against expectations especially as an actress, against the very concept of ‘closure’ or that her goal is a reunion with the man). Thank you to Sean for another amazing commission! 🥰 Looking forward to everything coming up in December! 💙

I held off watching this till we got back from Thanksgiving. This one hits me in a way, I cry buckets. It is a journey through a young girls life to her eventual end and her pursuit of love. Yeah, Satoshi Kon always tends to blend imagination or hallucination with reality. Movies are made of fantasy and imagination after all! I like to think or imagine that every person journeys through life in this way. We all have a story to tell. I still think of people as living books with their own stories to tell. Talk about living books! (Orb) the other story that comes to mind with that idea is Fahrenheit 451. Ok, off tangent…. But I like that idea. I’m sure that by the time Chiyoko was an old woman, she knew the man she pursued was dead. She kept the hunt going, it’s what inspired her. I always get told by older patients that getting old really sux! Mind you, I’m pushing 60 in three years! When I look in the mirror, I definitely look older. It’s a strange feeling. My dad was really harping on that fact over the holidays when we were looking at photos…. Just going through my mom’s old photos, I had to put together the slide show for the memorial. It was a journey through time. Yeah, this movie makes me think of my parents, those who I’ve lost, and those who I will loose. That’s just how it is. Tell your stories to those who you love so they know your journey. Ok, now for the music. Of course it’s by Susumu Hirasawa! Besides the sound of Berserk, he does Satoshi Kon movie soundtracks! Now the track playing at 28:40 with the evil witch and the 1000 yr tea, is a track that was also used in Berserk, it was called Murder in Berserk. In Millennium Actress it’s called Circle in Circle (Kun Mae#3) https://youtu.be/_iqmsSsaZxU?si=If0n6d3l0fB7PJ6X OST : https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL40E2DA0148C5F0BF&si=8dyQNIcqSyFMAs5e I absolutely enjoyed this movie and your reaction, even if it makes me weepy. You know, circle of life shit n stuff) hahahahaha! 😭
