[wip] Making Sticker sheets

I made a sticker sheet for the next round!

The GIF above is an estimated image, so the actual feeling will be a little different.

For the Sea Slug, it will be done with a sparkle holographic coating instead of foil!

1. Putting the character in the sticker sheet

I roughly decide how many sticker pieces I will make, what size they will be, and how I will decorate the blank space.

In this process, the length and angle of the snake's tail, the fish's tail, etc. were slightly changed from the original drawing. It's almost hard to notice, but one little centipede has become a bit shorter, and the flatworm's curved shape has also changed.

For Koi, snakes, and long bugs, I intentionally placed a lot of large pieces.

When I made Bichir stickers before, I used foil to express delicate scales on long fish and it printed beautifully. So I'm sure it will work well for Koi and snakes too.

2. small stickers

I thought it would be nice to add a little snake tongue to the margin.

So that we can combine the snake and tongue stickers.

But sticker piece is too small and thin. The shape is subtle about decorating a note or something. And then I remembered that the factory didn't recommend making pieces that were too small because they might cause errors.

So I deleted it and added a little snake and star-shaped decoration instead.

Common Tree Snake

This was one of the snakes I researched when I was drawing the Blue snake.

There was a yellow part on that snake, and I decided to only use blue/violet in the drawing at that time, so it was excluded. However, on the sticker sheet, the foil part will be the most intense, so this little yellow part doesn't interfere with the overall atmosphere.

3. The cutting line of the sticker - the silhouette.

For the succulents, I wanted to put in as many pieces as possible.

The cutting line was redrawn like this.

In the process of making stickers, almost every part is retouched.

I fill in the margins of the border, and erase the details where the foil part will go

4. Foil

I always think a lot about the color of the foil.

In this case, I was thinking between gold and Rosegold.

For example, the long bug and the Twinkle bug I made in the last round are a series. If I used the same foil color, it would go well together, but I thought it would be fun to use a different foil.

I thought about it until the day I sent the file to the factory, but I finally decided on rosegold.

The black part is where the foil goes in.

The foil is also drawn with a generous margin to accommodate the cutting line.

This is the foil part that will ultimately remain after the background paper is removed along the cutting line.

5. Convert to vector

The above work was done in Adobe Photoshop

From now on, done in Adobe Illustrator.

Vectorize using the Image Trace -> Expand function.

Every time the program version is upgraded,

I expect it to be accurate and beautiful, but contrary to my expectations, the lines are still crooked and ugly.

So I manually redraw all the outer cutting lines to make them smooth using pencil tool.

The blue sea slug looks simpler because it has no foil part 😆

The sticker sheet design is complete and has already been sent to the factory.

We will be able to see the actual pictures at the end of April.

Thank you!
