A long time ago, I drew horizontal pictures to fit Twitter's picture size.
Then one day, Twitter started allowing long vertical pictures, and I started using square frames. It fits Instagram's 1:1 format as you know.
But recently, Instagram's ratio changed.
I've drawn some pictures in the past with a 4:5 ratio. (Quetzalcoatlus, isopod - sky, Moon and Star.. ect.) It's a bit confusing that a platform suddenly changes this, but considering that most people use their mobile phones/iPads more than their monitor screens, maybe changes make sense.
It will look great on the platform and also has the added benefit of being more suitable for mobile wallpaper and more stable when printing postcards later. The downside is... I don't know why, but I just think squares are cuter than rectangles.

So I think I'll keep drawing in 4:5 for the time being. And if it doesn't suit me, I can just draw like I used to. For me, what and why I draw is more important than the proportions of the canvas π

I sketched it with this feeling in mind.
I have a guppy tank at home so it's easy to imagine. In real-life, fish move much more violently lol. But I always tend to draw them peacefully.

The left side has a chart-like feel. I added a little touch to give it a more watery feel.

I probably had my mouth open the whole time when I was drawing the picture.

Most varieties were bred in Japan and have names derived from Japanese.
For example, hi, aka means red (Akka bekko, Higoi)

There are also koi with shiny, metallic scales. I didn't draw it with emphasis, but if you look closely, you can see some sparkle in it.
It was so nice to draw fish βΊοΈ
