[ drawing ] Snake

2025 is the year of the blue snake.

Snakes are known to have great insight and intuition, and blue is a tree (vitality and growth) in the yin-yang and five elements. So combine the two, it means a new beginning, growth, and development.

So snake is perfect for the first drawing of 2025 :D

[ wip ] Serpent Day

I drew a snake in early 2020. It's been 5 years :D

This time, I'm going to try to draw them a bit longer deform than before to give it a more snake-like feel.

In nature, the blue color of snakes have meanings of reproduction, camouflage, and warning.

The snake shape is very simple, but... I had to struggle quite a bit while sketching it because I was trying to reduce negative space in the drawing 😅

Because I'm going to draw several on one canvas, so I don't want the drawing to feel too crowded.

When snakes coil up, they look comfortable.

Towards the end of the study drawing, I lost focus on the blue snake... and suddenly I wanted to draw bunch of ball python. It would be really cute if I drew a lot of round ball python in one frame.

Thank you!

Short snakes are really cute! I really want to draw more than one snake picture right now. LOL If your birthday is between March and the December, you're probably a fire tiger. but If you were born in January or early February, you might be an ox! In my case, I'm a golden dragon 😁 When I was young, I thought I was a snake because I didn't know that this had to be calculated by the lunar calendar.

pikaole

Oh, maybe it's because the New Year falls at the end of January according to the lunar calendar. It's January 29th. Hopefully we'll see more snake art by then!

It's good new year 🥰 Thank you!

Hahaha, making negative space beautiful is still a difficult problem for me. I also had a lot of trouble organizing the layout. Now that I think about it, there is no right answer, it may just be a matter of choice and style. If you are happy with filling all the space, then that is your way 🥰

pikaole

Haha yeah that's their hiding behavior when they're scared but it's so cute 😭

Thanks Dee!

I love them!

Dee

I love the last ones! They really do look super comfy!

I love the cute little snake faces! Your work never looks crowded, you do such a good job balancing it out! I used to get in trouble in design school for trying to fill all my negative space hahaha. I will fill it all, you can't stop me! xD

Year of the snake! These look so cute.

Yay, looking forward to them 😍 I was just thinking that I'm surprised I haven't seen more snake artwork yet since it's coming up to their year

Kiesa

I happen to think these snakes look quite dynamic and look forward to what you end up with!! 💙 The initial snakes reminded me of one of my favourite short & stout snakes, the puff adder. 😄 I didn’t actually know about the colour aspect of the zodiac animal. I believe I’m a fire tiger, having been born in 1986. 🐅🔥
