I had the idea for a ghost bat for a long time.... I ended up drawing it this time. It's a doodle I did before.

This ghostbat is the Northern ghost bat (Diclidurus albus).

This is probably a sketch from over 2 years ago.... missed the timing because I was drawing another picture and "Hm... let's draw it next year".

I have a lot of idea sketches like this 😅 But I can draw them next year, and there are also winter sketches that I couldn't draw because it was spring 😎

They are base on real bats (Macroderma gigas), called 'ghost bats' in Australia

If you search for actual pictures, you will see that they are really cute with their big eyes and big ears. What I felt was different from other bat species I had drawn before was the shape of their ears and their tails. The tails seemed almost nonexistent, and the middle of their big ears were attached.

I decided on the colors and started drawing, but I thought about it for a while because I wanted to paint it differently.

The top left has more red.

The right has more blue.

The bottom is red and green.

I don't really use this bright red/green color combination unless it's spooky season.... So I was personally quite drawn to it, but I thought the colors would look too scary this way. Of course, my style is simple and cute, so it won't be that scary... But I wanted to give it a dreamy atmosphere, so I decided to mix the two colors on the top. (Yes, the compromise between red and blue is purple.)

Ghostly Aura. The left one can feel a bit scary, so I changing it to the more mysterious right one.

Come to think of it, I drew a pterosaur not too long ago. They are similar shape but their wing structures are quite different in terms of anatomy. bat's wing is extended with all fingers , pterosaurs used only one finger - very very long ring finger.

If I had designed the character more realistically, it would have felt like this. I omitted a lot. If I were to draw a human character, it would be like drawing only two fingers. Like a pair of mittens!

I made their arms look like hands, but there is no finger line there. if you look closely, you'll see that there are tiny toe line drawn on the feet... This is something most people don't notice, but I like to add details like this, and at least you guys will be aware of it through this post 😎
