Better Call Saul 3x4 Full-Length Uncut Reaction

He did offer Mike money for it and he was involved in arranging the cocaine with the doctor, so Gus was at least involved, even if he didn't directly ask Mike to do it :)

Hey K&E and everyone. Reading the comments, no one seemed to point out the absolute importance of the Mexico scene, which defines the entire cartel story. At this point in the Mexico flashback, Gus has every reason to hate Hector because Hector killed Max, Gus' former partner (lover?) but Hector has no reason to hate Gus. To Hector at this point, Gus is a nothing, a peasant, even worse, a Chilean. (Don't ask me why Mexicans look down on Chileans, but the show says they do, so I'll just go with it.) Then Bolsa shows up with Gus's money that just blows Hector's little contribution to smithereens; and so much more efficiently wrapped. Eladio even says "from now on this is how you bring it to me." Even Gus' t-shirt gift is more liked by Eladio than Hector's stupid fat bobble head. We see Hector fuming with jealousy. "Is okay," he says about Gus's money. In the end, Eladio tells Hector, re Gus's money, "His is bigger than yours." An obvious dick joke, but not one a macho Salamanca would take lightly, especially Hector. And suddenly the hatred goes both ways.

Absolutely agree, Max. Just 2 minor corrections. 1) Gus didn't "get" Mike to frame Hector's ice cream truck, Mike did it on his own, it just benefited Gus more. Gus even says that. (2) Actually, I can't say 2 yet because it will give things away. Oops.

not to hype next episode but y'all....

Sorry I have a lot of notes on this episode :) The intro scene is some time in the past, supposedly quite far back as the cartel are only now getting acquainted with how much money Gus can bring in for them. Also, the driver that was with Hector is the driver that Mike robbed who was subsequently killed by the cousins. Apparently it was absolutely freezing when they filmed the intro and if you look closely at the closeups you can see Don Eladio's teeth chattering when he was talking. Poor man had to be in just speedos for hours. Gus has always played quite underhanded with the Cartel. Eladio, Bolsa and Hector never really considered him trying to overthrow them all. They underestimate how vengeful and cunning he is and so are blind to him always playing them. He gets Mike to bust Hector's cross-border transport so that he has monopoly over it. He's now in charge of all the cartel's transportation and distribution. Hector said "mierda" when he saw what was on his boot so Eric was right there. Just pure disrespect from Hector. I always thought Gus' thing about offering counselling and extra pay was just him being a progressive-minded boss. But now I realise it's just so that he can control to whom they speak. He doesn't want them telling outsiders what happened so he'll arrange who their psychologist is and pay them overtime to shut them up haha. Jimmy: "no-one should treat his own brother like that. Not ever." Perhaps he wasn't just apologising, but also speaking to Chuck; telling him that he crossed a line too. Chuck obviously didn't pick up what Jimmy was putting down as he immediately demanded an extra $2.98 off of Jimmy for the cassette tape. Being so legally officious as to demand an extra $2.98 off your own brother after he just apologised to you is so petty. Where's the real lack of remorse? As to their plan, it's not the PPD part that Jimmy's necessarily worried about, but dealing with the bar association. The PPD is, in terms of judicial punishment, the best outcome for him; but he may lose his license over it. So that's what they've got to fight. Kim says "bingo" after finding out there's a duplicate tape. Do they plan to steal it? corrupt it? Do they want it to be played? What are Mike's photos for? What was in Chuck's address book? What's the plaaaaaaaaaaaaan? So many questions! Cannot wait for the next episode!
