2024-06-20 14:32:24 +0000 UTCOne thing worth keeping in mind - The point of the scene is for Walt to be as convincing as possible. It shouldn't be surprising that many people are convinced. What's "obvious" is subjective, obviously.

Ive watched many reactions to this show and the people who react like y’all did do the phone call scene are typically the same ones who also think he was going to kill jesse in that scene in the plaza. Up until that point he treats jesse like shit and manipulates him constantly so some people think he doesn’t actually care for him when he genuinely does. On the other hand he also cares for his family and when hank dies he wrongly blames jesse for that. People interpret that as him finally losing his last shred of humanity so when they get to the phone call scene it feels real when he spews venom at skyler even though he’s clearly crying and looks conflicted in that moment. I believe the writers intended for there to be this confusion about walt’s intentions in that scene and really throughout the whole series. Great analysis eric 👍
