I get what you're saying, Eric. You're able to enjoy the exhilaration of the ride because it's taking those opportunities to balance the stress with moments of stress relief. How fun would a roller coaster be if it just went downhill forever? You need it to roll up once in a while.

Yeah, Vince Gilligan actually talks about it a lot, that he likes to hire actors with comedic backgrounds and comedians who get into acting, because comedy is one of the hardest things to pull off while making it look spontaneous and genuine. He figures that kind of earnestness and flexibility lends itself to more serious roles.

Re: The humor... it's interesting to note that not only is Bryan Cranston just a funny guy who's been in comedic roles, but Bob Odenkirk (Saul) is a noted comedy writer and comedian. Hank's partner Gomez is a comedian as well as Saul's "associates" Huell and Kuby (Bill Burr).
It's definitely not an accident that so many actors with comedic backgrounds were cast in this show!
