Franklin 11 DRAFT

Comments

Hey this still isn't added to the Franklin Youtube playlist

Ty Underwood

you can just message here, but I can't speak on the efficacy

Gabriel Martin

Is there a platform or email that general inquires or podcast guest requests can be sent to?

Danny Felts

a bit late, but you misspelled "redemption" at 12:00, "impoverished" at 18:20, and "laissez-faire" at 43:56. edit: didn't realise hitting return would just post the comment like an IM. great video! while it's hard to continue calling this series 'Franklin' when the only mention of the town is a quick thing at the end, i do like how the jig's up and it's basically just philly. that was pretty funny. as always it's great to just listen to a long, conversational tract on how crap the US is when you turn away from the official accounts.

hydrochloric

Can we get those assets early? Great vid

William Rose

The video is great. The complexity of this thing and the ammount of research and work it must've taken is nuts. Couldn't care less how long it took, well worth it.

Alien6981

> did i misspell or fuck up anything 1871

Patrick Quin

I feel like your underselling the Newburgh Conspiracy a bit, weren't Morris and Hamilton kinda egging that shit on? think i heard about this in a interview with William Hogeland when he was being asked about his book Founding Finance, The Episode rules but i feel like you missed a chance to dam Hamilton more and that would be a tragedy.

Maggie+Al

Nice job modeling! I died a bit at the Alexander Hamilton part.

Jason Milewski

great episode

TyrotheCreator

Please do not listen to anybody who claims you say "right" too much! That kind of critique is kinda out of bounds, and imo "right" sounds conversational and puts me at ease (which is important for edutainment.) One of the strengths of your channel is your non-hammy affect (rare on youtube) and how effectively it smooths out both the dense concepts and frequent hilarious jokes. If there's any problem with comprehension I suspect that has more to do with editing which could be mitigated just with some slightly longer pauses between certain thoughts of phrases (as Ross James above suggested.) The content itself is all valuable and funny though, and I like that it's long!

Matt O'Leary

Great Episode, very interesting!

Henning Grabbert

Also agree, it could definitely do with some kinda diagram.

Luka Hedt

The 3D modeling was a bit distracting as a background for the narration, but probably not a problem for people less obsessed with watching polygons line up.

Greg L.

Thank you. Stuck like a splinter in my mind

Greg L.

At 33:00 you say "420 (nice)" but it should be "420 (blaze it)" (I'm learning a lot, great video)

Jon Kimbel

Was just going to post something to this effect.

J R

I agree that I had trouble following that

Ty Underwood

Sir! Sir! Nice job. I really enjoyed it; I didn't notice anything anyone else hasn't noticed, found the explanation of how the 2nd bank operated at 36:20 a bit hard to follow but tbf I have ADHD.

David Bowie keeps breaking into my house

at 5:17 you say that the battle of yorktown ended the land war in 1871, instead of 1781.

Kevin Keogh

As others have said, FAR too much saying "right?". Rather than casual and approachable it sounds unsure and anxious... like I'm finding myself bracing myself for the next one and still flinching when it hits. It's hard to follow the points bc I get distracted each time. For the early maps with farmers and troops moving around, I'd suggest having the action happen as it is described, instead of waiting for the narration to end - like how they move at 12:23.

Alex Acosta

that audio quality

Canary Quill Astrology

it's leveled to -6dB lol, probably on your end

donoteat

Right, but since the value isn't tied to it, what does it really mean?

Nicolai Nielsen

""Rather than issue pounds, the government issued dollars". What does that actually mean, though?" he did mention this though. the fiat currency of the colonies was the spanish dollar aka the peso, so the us printed dollars.

De3ta

in general id up your voice over in the video its quiet all across- had to up my system volume to hear it really clearly but that may just be on my end.

De3ta

You say "Prelavent" around 46:44

Liam O'Connor

"Laissez-Faire" not "Laizzes-Faire" around 44:00

Liam O'Connor

"Redepmtion" mispelling at 11:58

Liam O'Connor

36:25 the orchestral track that kicks in is loud enough that it slightly drowns out your narration.

De3ta

Go Heels.

Sam Blakey

A collection on comments and a few corrections. Great stuff, though: Tone down the number of "right?", especially on items that people might not know, right? Might need more emphasis or detail on what "specie" is early on, since you refer to it later. You mention that a contentinental "was issued". The passive voice shall not be used. what does it mean to "issue tax on that money"? "Rather than issue pounds, the government issued dollars". What does that actually mean, though? What does "the face value" mean for a continental? Its value compared to a Spanish dollar? To fund "the war". Might make sense to mention which war. I mean, I suppose it's the revolutionary one, but still... I like the "narration over a sped-up building in Blender" format, but the rapid fast forward is jarring in Blender. It works better in Cities: Skylines for some reason. I would totally watch a real-time video with how you're building the model of the ... erhm... building As always, really like your anachronisms ("a massive tweet thread we now call the federalist papers", "Go Heels!", etc) 18:17 - "Impovrished the west" 21:47 - Move the explanation of 1816 earlier (i.e. "a volcano had erupted, then this happened, that happened" instead of "this happened, that happened, and a volcano had erupted") 24:15 - what's an ephisode? or a subdisciplint? When you talk about Athens' democracy, I'd love a tangent on idiots that insists that the US "is a republic and not a democracy" 40:24 - Had to be paid in pa-second bank notes" 47m - what's a National Republican? Did I miss the part where you defined this?

Nicolai Nielsen

I was honestly expecting you to make a 5 minute rant about the counter-intuitiveness of Blender's new UI

Subspace Jet Witch

Great video! I got a little lost from 36:20 on, it's pretty complicated, and the visuals and music make it hard to focus. Maybe wait with the music until you've explained the hard part? Also, the point at 38:16 is drowned out by the music a bit. The "overlending" part at 38:49-39:30 is difficult (to me), maybe it would help to bring back the diagram from 36:20? I'm not a native speaker though, so maybe it's fine.

petrolinus

At around 5:17 you said 1871 instead of 1771.

Ryan Krause

Impoverished is misspelled in the Hamilton slide but everything else is good so far

Sykes St.

TIL the battle of yorktown was in 1871

Will Morphet

you spelled laissez-faire wrong but I'm inferring that was intentional to make fun of the baguettes and their funny sounding language.

Keg

Everything looks good by my eye. Easy enough to understand.

Garland Ward

I think the cuts you're making in the audio are a bit too short - it's not that you're speaking too fast, but that sometimes it feels like sentences change very quickly while I'm still processing what was just said. All the information is really good and cool and I love to watch the 3d modelling and it's a very good video

Ross James

is this too nitpicky? 😬 laizzes -> laissez (44:10)

hotel

This coming out makes me think that the Tacoma Narrows Bridge episode is coming soon.

NM

I'm about a third through and it's very good so far... just a little confusing about how the first bank was founded and how the govt got 2 mil out of the 10 mil and private companies got the rest for 2.5mil...

Keg

You sound real confident in this one. A somewhat quicker pace to the episode, which is good

oscar strokosz

Of course as soon as I say this I spot a spelling mistake: impovrished -> impoverished (18:20)

hotel

Gonna be honest, my feedback won't be available till mid August. Hope you understand lol

oscar strokosz

About a quarter of the way through it and everything seems pretty solid so far

hotel

wow I never expected franklin 11 to come out in my lifetime

Keg
