Sofia experienced an insane amount of trauma in a world of men who control women's lives. She's even further affected when she realizes her mother is a victim of the same mechanism, now knowing both of their lives were taken from them at the hands of men. Oz's trauma stems from expectations driven into him by his mother to be great, and from other men in his "trade" who minimalize his efforts and success. Losing his girl compounds that, as he's extended his need for seeking approval from her to make up for his lack of validation from his mother. Both of these characters have reached a tipping point and are tired of not being in control of their lives. It's not a matter of whose trauma is worse because relative to their own experiences, it's the worse thing they've experienced. It's only us as viewers that compares them so directly because we're watching both of their stories unfold, while our natural tendency to relate more to one or the other comes to the surface. This is where the divide in perspective seems to be happening. Tay might relate more to Sophia and Wellz might relate more to Oz. It's never purely a matter of right or wrong when it comes to storytelling because the writers know that people will watch characters they relate to. That's why in a world of heroes and villains like DC, we're choosing between which villain to root for instead of saying "When is Batman gonna come in with his billion dollar Batmobile and shut all this down so he can go back to his mansion to sit alone in peace?". Sorry Bruce but we ain't all on that time yet. Pre "bro really typed all that" and pre "parasocial ahh comment" from other people lmao I've just been on so many react journeys with Tay and Wellz and I felt like sending some substantive engagement. They spend a lot of time entertaining us and I feel like it's easier to keep going when you know that people are truly engaged with your content.
