Also think the Ivar and Hvisterk being forgiven is hard to believe I agree but through out the show that's always been a thing you kinda have to see. Lagertha attacked Kattegat Harold had someone try to take Kattegat for him they both went on to rule Kattegat. I mean Bjorn Lagertha Ubbe Torvi all going to England after losing to Ivar seemed way more far fetched at least the viking people share the same gods and Ivar and Hvisterk and have seen them grow up respect Ragnar and probably can at least respect them for some of the stuff they've done. The English hated all vikings and the gods they followed but gave them all a chance because of Bishop Heahmund

Looking at his point of view after he fled he was captured by the Rus and then had no way to escape until he did really. Maybe you could argue he could have tried to switch sides during the war but he had a lot of growing to do while he was away and how could he be sure after everything they'd take him back espeically after Hvisterk so recently killed Lagertha. He kinda had to pick sticking with Hvisterk the one brother he's been closest with along with oleg and Katia who he cared about or risking it with a load of people who wanted him dead for such a long time. Think Ivar's growth over the season was massive and you could tell he didn't agree with a lot of stuff Oleg did which before he himself would have likely done or worse
