Brief(ish) Update & Holiday Traditions
Added 2023-12-23 10:28:30 +0000 UTCOkay, so a brief update.
First things first, Patreon rolled out a feature called Collections a while back. It's basically a way to round up related posts. So, I went ahead and put it to use. If you click on the collections tab, it should take you to a page where you'll find almost all of the posts for each volume of the Unintended Cultivator listed together in separate sections, along with the other books I'm working on with varying degrees of speed. The only exception is Volume 2. I need to go and add about 20 of the chapters for that volume manually. It should make finding chapters easier if you aren't just looking for the latest available chapter for a given tier.
For anyone whose interested, the ebook version for Volume 2 of Unintended Cultivator is available for pre-order on Amazon for most countries. I don't have a universal link for that yet.
Next, it's just about Christmas here in America, which means we're all gearing up for our annual orgy of greed and gluttony. But, that did get me to wondering about how all of you are celebrating Christmas or other end-of-year holidays. I'll probably be making a turkey breast in a bag or getting a ham, and having mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and maybe some kind of pie. Beyond that, I'll probably dig through my DVDs and pull out the Garfield and Peanuts holiday specials to watch because, yes, I am still 12 in my deepest heart and those specials are synonymous with the holidays in my mind. I may also watch the George C. Scott version of A Christmas Carol because it's my favorite version.
So, sound off in the comments and give me a picture of what your holiday celebrations look like.
I am also aware that the holidays aren't always a joyous time for everyone. If you're struggling with depression, you can call The National Mental Health Hotline at 866-903-3787. They can talk with you about what you're going through and help you find local resources..
This one isn't 100% locked in, yet, but I'm also looking at options for doing a livestream for patrons on Christmas afternoon/evening if you think seeing my glowering, unshaven visage will cheer you up. Depending on the platform, I may even be able to field some questions live. Spoiler: John dies in the end. I haven't worked out exactly what else I might do on the livestream, but I'm sure it will be great because of all of my natural awesome-ing.
Okay, I think that's it for now.

2023-12-24 13:51:49 +0000 UTCChristmas has been a gong show for a lot of years. I worked in the hospitality industry in a ski resort town for a lot of years and it sort of broke my mentality. When I got married my wife informed me that Christmas was important to her but we had no money as she went through school and I supported her. As a result Christmas was always travel for us. We go to our parents and try to talk about our "progress" rather than how things "were." It was pretty tiring. We bought a house a few months ago and we're making an effort for the first time in over a decade to actually celebrate. Her parents came in from out of state and we greeted them with a light show I put up. Right now, gifts are still light but we are spending a lot of time together, good food and getting their advice on how to plan next steps in our life which pleases them enormously. So yeah, I think for us Christmas is a time where we just try and make time and have long form discussion about our life. Also eat a lot of good food. The formal brunch with mimosas is always welcome.
