I love my Model 3! Enjoy!

Jay Mehdj, hope you and the family are safe and well. Have you looked into hydrogen cars or building a hydrogen generator? #powerhouseenergy in the Uk

The fear is rational. Considering natural disasters and human error are involved. Japan is a great example.

We need way more nuclear plants here in the states. Fear is the largest obstacle at current. Maybe someday.

NGL, I cringed when I saw Tesla. This is going to be a Elon fanboy s. show. I'd prefer he buy an off brand and fiddle with it.

I’m not a fan of Tesla as a company, but I do think that overall the cars are decent, and I think you’ve made a good choice long term!
Happy to be here too, I’ve been a fan of your work for a long time!

I cringed a lot at that video. Mehdi = every new EV ebthusiast before they really know what they are saying.

If you want a solution with all the signals already mapped, there's an app called "Scan my Tesla" that's pretty good and can log .csv files of the data: https://sites.google.com/view/scanmytesla/home
2021-03-31 00:01:03 +0000 UTC
Congrats Mehdi! When you get a chance, you should check out the data on the car's CANBUS. "Applied Science" did a cool video on it where he read the CANBUS data with his oscilloscope: https://youtu.be/54jQ7ut3FBA

"$0.26/ kWh (Supercharging cost) x 33.7 kWh per gallon = $8.76 per gallon equivalent"
https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a35152087/tesla-model-3-charging-costs-per-mile/
2021-03-30 21:56:23 +0000 UTC
WTF? Here in germany every single kWh costs fricking 32 cents (0.32€). Charging your 54kwh battery would cost ~17,50€. I mean thats still cheaper than gasoline (thanks to our "beloved" government costing ~1,55€ per litre...), but charging your car on one of the "public" chargers (which includes tons of problems like that every changer is owned by someone else, requiering another app to pay etc) will still rip your wallet out, the faster you want to charge to more expensive the energy gets, up to the range where gasoline would be cheaper again (especially for highway fast-charging stations)

Mehdi to tax advisor: "How can I take another deduction on this car?" Tax advisor: "Use it like a mobile white board & then write it off under Office-Supplies."

How is the sound system? Did you try it with that AI reprocessed audio link I sent ( https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wCIHL76EmbfN1ntMnAM7lFMiHmJdwQ7Y/view?usp=drive_web )?

That trying to head into a barrier/boxes makes me wonder if FSD would be capable of navigating around a temporarily closed road that's not yet marked as closed in the online map. This is one thing that bugs me with Google Maps. If a major rural road has just closed such as due to a truck jacknifing, it will keep trying to navigate me me back to that closed road until I drive far enough away for it to provide an alternative route.

About Regen Braking: Tesla announced some time ago that it was incorporating supercapacitor tech into it's cars. Is the regenerative braking system tied to a CAPACITIVE STORAGE BANK?

Yup, same way cutting down forests doesn't pollute so long as a new forest gets to grow in it's place and the carbon captured in the wood of the old trees isn't released. Cutting a forest down isn't deforestation.
Actually, an old fully grown forest doesn't absorb much CO2 at all, most of it is absorbed when growing or producing biological material from the carbon. So our best way to capture lots of carbon is to cut down old trees and plant new saplings, and re-use the cut wood into housing or construction projects where the carbon stays in the wood.
Unfortunately, most of the forests are burned or cut down to be replaced with concrete buildings and parking lots, which *is* deforestation.

Mehdi! I'm so proud of you (and expected no less from a fellow Engineer)! Welcome to the club :) I made my own street legal EV motorcycle from scratch, so I'm eager to know if you'll ever make your own EV some day. 🤗 Keep up the good work! 💕

I charge my EV in front of my appartement with no issues, I just have an EVSE adapter to a regular Nema-15-5 plug with an enclosure that locks so people can't steal it. It's not high speed, but enough for a 2.5kWh charger which charges my motorcycle from 20% to 80% in about 2-3 hours

According to the Tesla filing with the FTSB, FSD (when it arrives) will only be level 2, it is not Full Self-Driving, it will require drivers to remain attentive and keep their hands on the wheel.
Congratulations, you were conned.

When I used to commute to work, I pedaled, 5 miles each way.
Best mode of transportation, if you can. Not adding in the health benefits, riding a bicycle has about the same efficiency as a salmon swimming. *Bicycling Science, third edition (The MIT Press)
Electric bicycles are available for those with longer commutes or hills that are still far more efficient than any two-ton vehicle - again though, they don't work for everyone.

Cows burping and farting do not contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, because cows got that carbon from the atmosphere to begin with. Cows are part of the carbon cycle.
Fossil fuels are not part of the carbon cycle.
The problem is digging sequestered carbon out of the ground, and putting it into the air. That raises carbon levels in the air.

Sadly if you don't own a garage EVs are still not usable. I live in the city and park my car in front of the apartment block I live in, there is no way to charge it :( Also the self discharge issue of the batteries make me wonder if EVs are truly the future. It seems to me that the plug-in hybrids (which tend to use more complicated technology) are the future for everyone.

Neither is coffee, but I absolutely cannot tolerate it without milk. I've tried every milk substitute on the market and milk is the only thing that makes it drinkable for me. Same with tea. (although I can at least tolerate iced teas with fruit flavours added)
I think the main issue is, if we gave up polluting everywhere we have alternatives, what remained wouldn't be half as bad. Its the fact everything combined that caused the problem.

Agreed, although they come with their own drawbacks in that if its the kind that only uses the engine when absolutely necessary, the fuel can go bad before you've used it up.

Do you have the FSD beta? Because that’s the only way you can do “self driving.” Otherwise all you have is autopilot, which is WAY more basic.

Thanks for that Medhi. Very good points about electric cars. As we often drive places where there are no chargers, I prefer a Prius hybrid. This way I get many of the benefits of electric, with the range and availability of fuel of an internal combustion car. I believe that hybrids are the bridge to electric cars.

I still drive my bicycle with my 2 feet...lol
2021-03-30 08:49:14 +0000 UTC
You have bought a car that is known to be of Dacia quality (true low end). In addition, a car with a real range of less than 400 km (when driving at a speed of about 112 km / h, the range drops significantly with a faster speed). Living in the province by the sea, I would not get there and come back on one charge. And the future is hydrogen cells.

I know, pretty much all technology in there is already existing. It is just the EV factor that is cool

My 2015 Dodge also has collision avoidance, adaptive (traffic aware) cruise control, and none of the instruments crashed in all the years I owned it. Don’t get me wrong I like EVs, but I don’t find the technology of these expensive Teslas particularly exciting or even innovative

Carefull with the lawsuits, acording to Jeremy Clarkson from Grand Tour Tesla suit them in Top Gear for a good review of a tesla car, they loss it and try again haha, no joke!
2021-03-30 06:34:03 +0000 UTC
Great! Though, you should maybe drop the "car" in the name, because EV stands for electric vehicle. So now it reads "Bought my first electric vehicle car".
