How Safe Is the SHOWER HEAD OF DOOM?! [and the MEETTA winners]
Added 2019-05-23 23:37:39 +0000 UTC
Hello everyone! Do you feel safe installing one of these shower heads? Well, you shouldn't!
But at least two of you will have the meter to help them check things! And soon 10 more will have the mater/scope/generator thingy in the video! Here's the two winners of Keysight Meter Scope:
- Silvan Gra.
- Lloyd Kru.
As patrons you are already in the draws. But you could also register from the link below to increase your chances:

Kettles are the usual cause of GFCI trips in my country. On top of that you have the risk of ground becoming live due to some other device (or incorrect installation). Plumbers have died due to live plumbing (which would be an unfortunate result of bypassing the GFCI). I've not seen BigClive disassemble one of the safer alternatives you mention (only as he called it, the "suicide shower"), so I'm only hazarding a guess here, that they probably use some insulation material like enamel, or a secondary heat-pipe filled with oil, which would form electrical isolation from the water whilst still allowing the heat to transfer... less electricity? I dunno, maybe, but how much less are we talking here?

Why is this showerhead any worse than the Electric Tankless Water Heaters sold in the US and I believe Canada. Or even the electric hot water heaters with tanks? It seems like the shower head would be much less expensive and not need a plumber to install it. The shower head probably uses less electricity too.

Just made an account to support your channel (and for the juicy extra chance of winning the electrothingy, I would really like to have that tool). You do an awesome job creating original and quality content. Your videos make me partially regret I gave up an electrical engineering career for being a software engineer.

Actually I start to wonder, how my home hot shower works. It is not the "suicide shower head" of course, its a big bulky tank. .... Hmmm... where did I put my screwdriver. Time for unscrew things up!

Yo, give me scope m8, i need it or do i?

Would be great to receive that handheld scope right as I'm starting my circuits Lab class :D

I'm wondering what would happen if most of the holes on the outlet got blocked over time. Would more electricity pass through the higher pressure streams and would it cause hotspots that eventually melt or warp the plastic?

Now I wonder: I never heard anything about people zapped by their shower, but those showers are so commonplace here, that means they're actually secure enough? Or it is just that people get shocked now and then but nobody cares?

Surely a lot of people already told you, but you'll find those showers EVERYWHERE across South America. I won't say those are the most "secure" ones, but they're the cheapest and most common by far. Only the very well-to-do can afford a central heating tank and all that stuff; and even then they would probably install those "suicide" showers, not because of stinginess but because they're used to it.

I didn't even know they made portable oscilloscopes.... I work on HVAC and restaurant equipment for a living, that think would save me a bunch of headaches and guess work with.

Just became a patreon, have watched all of your old vidoes, shared with my friends and father. Thank you for the content and oooo please let me win that magic elechicken tool, i bought a mini osmeloscope but it is only one channel (if i win yours ill send it to you so you can take it apart and tell me what it used to be in a past life, my money is on some sort of MP3 player)... Again thank you for the content. Now I support two canadians...

I wonder how bad it would be if the neutral wire would break, leaving only the hot wire on the heating element (with no ground)?

I'm a biologist with a love for organic chemistry. I was always pretty meh about electrical engineering. You videos have completely changed that. I'm now genuinely interested and want to understand.
And thanks for showing me a fast way to harvest the graphite from pencils and the idea of using induction heat to expand perlite and vermiculite (inside a steel container of course).

Faulty home wiring is a pervasive issue I think. In the US I've lived in multiple buildings which use aluminum wire for the stove. Aluminum wire conducts more poorly as it oxidizes, and this is a great way to start fires at the socket connection. There is usually some gel they put to protect the wire, but who knows what happens to that after 30 years?! KEEP THE FIRE IN THE OVEN
2019-05-24 14:58:09 +0000 UTC
Also, now on the topic...i think that bla bla bla...is NOT SAFE....if is any error on this ...it can set on fire and if is not connected properly kill you with electricity ...and btw...WHERE IS THE EFFICIENCY? ?

i think you are the only one who put some paid products in the video and i don't get anoyed

I think you could reproduce a miniature version of this maybe with your tesla coil. Maybe the garlands, although not touching provided a low resistance path to the fence.
Power line electrocution - 20 people wounded
In Mol, Belgium, 20 people were injured in an accident involving garlands being fired in the direction of high-voltage cables.

In that type of shower the heating element is electrically isolated from the water. It also has thermostatic flow-rate control to ensure that you don't over-heat the water and scald yourself. The rules on this kind of thing are pretty strict in the UK!
2019-05-24 11:08:14 +0000 UTC
I've been in London a few tiems and I always had this kind of water heater: http://right-heating.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/heater6-350x350.jpg Is kind of the same I guess... All the AirBNBs had this electric wall water heater...

Great video Medhi. Love that you was mad enough to get in with that thing. Love the hand held scope for those of us who are on the road like myself.

USD $200 in Brazil is more than one order of magnitude of an affordable price.

Ah yeah, my house does not have ground but the guys that setup (before I come in) put the ground in the 2 showers, at least.
New houses, though are appearing with ground in the right way. The problem is that here when we have ground and everything else in place, the cables are too thin or the electric pipe is too crowded to dissipate hot air.

In Brazil, a ground wired house is the exception of the exception. We are used to getting shocked by our wonderful Lorenzetti electric showers.

I have never won a giveaway in my 50 years on this planet.. radio, internet , etc. ( Pondering )Since any of the things listed I don't own and can actually use, does that help or hinder my chances... As 200.00 being affordable , 15 years ago when I was making 60k a year it was affordable, but being disabled my income dropped to less then 15k a year. I am lucky if I have 20 bucks to my name after paying the bills. I do consider my buck a month here well spent and wish I could afford more. Thank you for your great videos. All the testing equipment I have, has been made from trash from the side of the road except for 2 harbor freight 3 dollar meters. Affordable is different for everyone. 🙂

Also, Electrical showers are the most common here. Hot water from sun plates are expensive to setup. There are some cities that have warm water from ground and they don't need to turn electral showers never LOL.

Hi, I am Comp. Engineer and I have used these for a long time. I can open some for you and send pics. We used 2 versions, 110v single phase, 220v single phase and 220v 2 phases.
I have a circuit breaker of 32A because A = 6300W / 220V that is near 29A + wire resistance.
Also, there are several important notes.
The right way to setup it is to have the ground line (cable) to be good enough , good copper stack in ground and wide enough cable. The setup shall be correctly done, but after a few years the green wire inside the tube (ground is green in Brazil) get corroded and reduces it effectiveness. We listen to stories of people getting shocks in baths (old people, from 90s or before) our whole life. I myself had many cases and one of them was ina 110v shower in my uncle's farm that was made from metal LOL.
I have plenty on this subject to talk, I would like to email you pics and some details if you want to know more.
PS: The way you setup is really dangerous, we only use 4mm cables (for short and low powered showers) or 8mm cables for showers. Never turn it on outlets. Be careful with these!

Good topic. I love that little Oscilloscope too.

I've seen these in a worksite and the wires connected to them were isolated by strips of a shopping bag.
