Speed of Electrons – What’s a Resistor (ElectroBOOM101-004)

With electricity so fast, how fast do you think electrons move in a wire? Is there a “Yo-Mama” joke in there somewhere?!

By the way, I should still draw the keysight scope and the patron only Hantek scope! Should do it sometime tomorrow... Stay Tuned!

Oh and I will change this unflattering thumbnail too! Thanks YouTube for picking the best screenshots!

And do you remember those days before the internet when you had to search through endless hobby magazines or library book to find what you needed to know just for a tiny part of what you wanted to do? Not to mention finding the parts...........this is definitely a good example of how the internet has helped and made things more accessible for everyone:)

Here is an idea you might want to pursue sometime as you do some 101 classes. I worked at a plant in maintenance while going back to UNC for some physics classes I could not take due to needing certain classes to keep my student deferment from the US Draft for Vietnam (1967 tp 70) So at this plant we worked with 440 VAC 3 phase. Pretty cool stuff. I leaned that if we needed a 110 power drop for a tool we would just attach to one hot and the neutral to get the 110 at the machine. Not many people realize they can get 110 outlets that will be about 30 amps by tapping one leg of the 220 at the stove and the neutral. Looks like that is how they did my two outlets in my stove island. Just that there are some pretty helpful things that viewers could do for themselves. Like if you have a problem with low voltage causing a car a/c clutch not to engage, where did it go? Yes, resistance somewhere in the circuit. Usually it is at the points in a relay that have built up carbon. Carbon is a resistor. Dealer was bluffed as to why only 11.5 at clutch coil and 14.4 at alternator. Tracked it down to a 5 relay pack in the wheel well. Found the bad relay, removed it and got one with same specs for 7 dollars. right back to 14.4 at clutch coil and A/C worked. Keep making us smarter and how to think. Thanks again for the lessons, love them.

Love the 101 series. I used to make all kinds of circuits for many things I wanted to do. This was probably before you were born. Wired part of the house at 14 and then read and read on electronics. Tell me what you needed and I could perf board you a circuit to do that for you. I later got into management and no time to play. Now I'm retired and we have the internet for circuits. Lovin the time we live in. No more basic electronics books or trips to the library. Thanks for the refresher courses Mehdi.

"For moolah." Now with the dual meaning of "calculated" and "for the money." ;)

Agreed. You have a true gift.

The 101 videos are absolutely fantastic! You got interested in E.E. and now I'm loving learning about it! Thank you

These 101 are might be less explosive, but I really want them to continue

Nice video! OMG another giveaway!! gimmi tha scoooope !

Please keep making these sorts of videos to save all the dummies like me from our own ignorance! Love it when you go into more detail but still keep it so entertaining.

I love these kind of videos and I just covered this subject! Great stuff funny as always.

Can you connect your flying oil demonstration to this video? What is the voltage across the oil jet, I guess measured from one reservoir to the other. How many amps does the oil jet transport? Does P = VI still hold as it must take energy to physically move the oil? A quibble with your fluid motion demonstration. I think increasing pipe friction does noticibly slow the rate of flow through a pipe, so adding the coupling and the hose probably did slow the flow down a measurable and possibly observable amount.

I've been an electronics tech for over 30 years, and that was the most clear, concise explanation of how electricity works that I have ever seen. Please keep up the great work!

And that’s how I survived that incident :) that still makes me laugh. you should make up some sort of shirt with you getting zapped with the HV Jacobs ladder

Can you do a video on capacitors

One of my top fav videos so far! Keep learnin' us common folk!

That's one of the words YouTube thinks we don't know. It would probably get him demonitized. :(

Lots of replies to critics. Don't waste your time, unless it's funny. Excellent video. Definitely deepened my knowledge of electricity.

King Parker

love the 101's! very very informative. the way you describe really works well for my brain.

Al

Good idea for another t-shirt! Ohm’s law with pictures 😄

Mark Roberts

Best video yet! Electricity is hard to explain and you always find a fun and clear way to get it across.

Why did you beep ‘penis’?!?

But what is that gold bar in the frame in the background??? I can't focus on the subject until I know haha

Pete Golding

Loving these.
