YAY! the first real video in the new channel! But wow this is quite different and quite long too. But hey, that's what the new channel is for. I do a bunch of things like this that might be worth a video. Might be quite boring though! So brace yourselves!
Noodly poop is a much better name.

I have been in the upholstery business and yes it is piping and pneumatic staplers are key.. but you did a great job, better infact than some professionals i know LOL

Can you make a short video on Mehditation about this Yanny and Laurel stuff? I don't get it.

PIPING! The noodle thing is called piping. Having been down this road before my sense of schadenfraude doth overflowed. A pneumatic stapler would make all the difference in the world. Did you pattern match one side to the other? Was the pattern vertical or horizontal? Probably both ... could be a diamond repeat. Hard to say without seeing a larger section of the fabric. The noodle on the original is used to create piping from the original material. Nice work!

That's what I was waiting for. In any case it looks great! Way to go Mehdi-I think Medhitation is another winner. Oh, and my solution to the fringe on the trim would be to use a lighter on it. Unless it's natural fabric, in which case it's more or less just a dynamite fuse at that point.

Knowing multiple reupolstery shop owners, 1200 is cheap really. They often charge quite a bit to keep from overwhelming their work load due to time it can take to source desired materails, very careful removal, often also repairing any other issues they may find with the furniture like scatched paint and stain. You get what you pay for in the business and i havent seen many "hipsters" own shops like this, cheap work only depreciates the actual workmanship that true artisans put into their product.. that $200 upholstery job that barely covers the overhead of the tools used and doesnt even give the worker a good wage after all the expenses are taken out.. vs the more expensive cost that properly covers the hours and overhead expenses. For example i do leather work. Sure i could sell a wallet for $15 and move a bunch faster.. but in the mean time when i have 3 hours into hand stitching it, $6 worth of leather, leaving $9 for dye, thread, cost of tools, my labor cost cutting it also, etc.. let alone any custom tooling or requests of the customer.. 15$ wallet = I make nothing on my labor. Even at $60 for a hand made wallet, ive calculated it out to less than $3/h i make in return for the labor time.

No staple injuries?? :)

Did you do the same thing the quote was for? They might have included replacing the foam and other features. Search for quotes in cheap labor locations in Canada (if they exist), the US, and Mexico. You might be surprised at what you can get if you are willing to mail you stuff and wait a month or two. Who needs to pay snooty hipsters, who really just want to quit their jobs and make internet videos, to reupholster your stuff.

Good job, sir. On the chair and the video.

To prevent the unwinding, I’d have taken a lighter to heat something like a spoon to melt the end :p

That was cozy, nice job :)

It would discolor it too much though, unless I use the just right temperature! Crazy glue does the same thing without much discoloration

That's really impressive. Maybe I'm conditioned by my own attempts at arts and crafts, or maybe from watching too much Top Gear, but there was a lingering feeling at the back of my mind that this couldn't possibly go well. I mean, there's a reason we pay experts to do these things, right? Anyway, the chair looks amazing. I don't think I'd have the patience to do it myself, though.

Do you think that a soldering iron and solder might fix the noodely thingy?
2018-05-16 05:56:01 +0000 UTC
Use a flame or a hot metal piece to prevent the pipe from raveling.

You looked happy in this video, it was nice to see you enjoy yourself. Even the cut finger didn't seem to bother you as much as an electric shock I am always happiest when learning new things. Maybe its time for a Career change. I hear adult apprenticeships can be very satisfying if you can afford to do it.

When you're a kid, you watch people play video games online. When you're an adult, you watch people reupholster chairs online.
