Business Trip (part 1)

This is for all my business travelers. When I was in college, I always thought traveling with my job would be ideal and sort of romantic. All those cities and new adventures. I didn't have to do a lot of traveling with the bank, but I did enough to have a much different appreciation for all of you that have to travel on a constant basis. It's the little things that can make such a big difference in a grueling day. Do they have your room ready? Did they give your car away? Did they lose your luggage? I didn't ask for a room above the nightclub. The weather said nothing about a flood. How could they have booked me into a hotel full of soccer tournament kids?

I can't imagine all the stories all of you might have and I would love to hear some of them. I have spent my share of days finishing reports in cramped quarters. Technology has certainly made things much easier in that regard. No more fighting with the desk about the fax machine.

The one thing I do love is when there are unique places to eat. I don't need fancy, just good. I know that I'm very spoiled with food in Vegas, but I love learning about the little places in different cities that just aren't on the map. And I absolutely love it when the hotel has a beautiful bar. I think it's the film noir thing for me. I get excited just thinking about it. At the end of the day, it's the only thing that feels a bit normal and I love talking to fellow travelers from all over. I think I'm naturally a curious person, so I've met some of the most interesting people. The whiskey selection usually leaves something to be desired, but it has gotten much better. πŸ˜‰

Stayed tuned for part 2....

You are so welcome. Yes, after that experience, roller coasters, ferris wheels and even climbing on a tall ladder are things that give me pause. I might could do a ski lift, however, if you were holding my hand LOL. Seriously, a ski lift would actually be fun. I would be the strong silent type for you in that case.

Christopher

I used to love rollercoasters, not so much today and your flight sounds just like that, but what an adventure. Thank you! πŸ’‹

I'm sure you've forgotten more stories than I had trips. I can't imagine all the headaches AND the gear, but you've made history too. I'm sure there are more than a couple of photos that wash all the bad away. ❀️ πŸ’‹

I forgot to mention the trip on the glacier boat I did when I stayed over the weekend. I sipped Irish coffee, which I think you would have loved, while on a boat going near the glaciers. The Irish coffee laced with whiskey felt wonderful sitting on a boat in late summer, which is more like late fall where I am from. Was an awesome time. But, after that rocky flight I mentioned, after that I developed a fear of heights that lasted to this very day. In my younger days, I thought turbulence on a big jet was a rush until I experienced it on a small prop plane that got thrown about.

Christopher

Wow, what a great story. I'm jealous! It sounds absolutely beautiful, but I'm thinking I'd need to plant my feet on the ground for a bit after a flight like that. I'm sure that bush pilots are a very different breed. Alaska is definitely on my bucket list. ❀️

My two favorite business trips were the two trips I took to Alaska. It is like being in a whole different world up there. Playing golf at Anchorage Golf Course and being on the practice range and seeing Mt McKinley, which is 20k tall and 200 miles away, in the background. Interestingly enough, from that distance only the top half of the mountain is visible due to curvature of the earth. Also, flying to a remote fishing village mid-winter was an adventure. The little plane flying between mountains got rattled a bit by turbulence. I was so afraid the turbulence would knock us into the mountains. But the pilot knew what he was doing, fortunately.

I don't know whether to thank you for making me stop and remember all of the fun times on the road or to __________ you for making me stop and remember the not so fun times like spending 10 hours at the airport during a blizzard just hoping to get out that night and not miss that big payday for the live event I was supposed to cover the next day......Yes, lots of good times but I think your bad times hit on a lot of my nightmare memories... Bottom line is to just keep smiling.

Just an old guy.

Thank you so much for this set! I really needed some happiness this week! πŸ’–πŸ’–
