Added 2021-03-11 04:38:06 +0000 UTCFour Roses Small Batch Bourbon is today's pick for Whiskey Wednesday. This was a wonderful and thoughtful Birthday gift, along with the pantyhose I am wearing. I love receiving new whiskeys that I haven't tried before! This bourbon didn't seem as sweet to the taste in the beginning and seemed more complex, which I really enjoyed.
Four Roses Small Batch is a step up from the classic Four Rose Bourbon showcasing the variety of mash bills that the distillers have to work with in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky - and their talents at making them sing together. Ten bourbon recipes are produced by Four Roses, and four of then are blended together to create this approachable but flavorsome expression.
Notes from Master of Malt:
Nose: The nose is quite subtle and smooth, there are notes of winter spice and buttered granary toast with thick honey. There are hints of cut flowers and dry hay.
Palate: The palate is much fuller with a lovely balance. There are notes of manuka honey, winter spice, toasty oak, a little crรจme anglaise and thick fruit.
Finish: The finish is of good length with a resurgence from the crรจme anglaise.

It was my birthday and some lovely friends gave me a bottle of Smokehead which I hadn't tried before. It's big peaty smoke with some sherry sweetness and an iodine aftertaste, it's from an undisclosed distillery on south Islay which I guess is Caol Ila as most of their whisky goes to blends (Johnnie Walker). 2021-03-11 21:22:06 +0000 UTCAnother beautiful photo, thank you ๐ I wasn't sure about the Mackmyra Brukswhisky from Sweden at first but it grew on me, light and clean tasting with sherry and caramel from the bourbon casks. This week I opened an old favourite, a bottle of Bunnahabhain Stiuireadair (boo-na-ha-venn stew-rahdur) from the Isle of Islay. It's named for the helmsman on the boats that were the link between the Isles and the mainland. There are nine distilleries on Islay (eye-la) and the ones in the South are known for their strong peaty smoky flavours, like Lagavulin and Laphroaig. However Bunnahabhain is in the North and isn't peated or smoky so is lighter and has a hint of the sea, with sherry, caramel and gentle spice, it's a lovely thing. Slรกinte
