Meloney Ruth

You should watch the helluva boss version of no longer you and the id fall again I'd love to see you're reaction to those

Meloney Ruth

Such a cute puppy!!!!!!! I'm petting Wiggles with my eyes.

Animegirl

Yeah they've done Cirge Saga, they're not doing the sagas out of order.

SauceyRed

What does this comment mean?

SauceyRed

The mom part ALWAYS gets me. Also the animatic for No Longer You in this playlist is actually the one i prefer, it's just so cool! And this animatic for Monster is genuinely the best imo, like props to everyone else's Monster animatics, but god nothing compares imo. Chills. Every time. Gigi cooked.

SauceyRed

Seeing the Greek Underworld in any context (mainly any of the Rivers) - All I can think about is ,,Just don't be the Lethe, anything but THAT one" (They - mainly Nico - sufferred WAY too much without any ,,reason" to be sufferring, even compared to other demi-gods)

LikeCat

also i would LOVE to add that the shades (souls of the dead) can't pass on without a proper burial, so all of Odysseus' men are left to wander the underworld for abt a 100 years before they can move on to where all the other souls are and get to reincarnate... ALSO the souls here sing the last thing that was on their mind when they died :)

Aiste Laurynaityte

Someone probably talked about Odysseus' mom, but I don't have the patience to look for it, so ehem. Back in the ocean saga, before the wind bag was opened, the people could already see Ithaca in the distance, they were RIGHT there and Odysseus' mother saw the ships, however when the wind bag was opened, she saw the giant storm take them and thought her son had died, so she khs in her grief and Odysseus learns of that by going to the underworld </3

Never was I more glad to have a Patreon subscription. Those guest stars were absolutely adorable and I want more of them🩷🩷

Raine

Hopefully after the musicals done we can see other versions of the animatics. Cause so far open arms, warrior of the mind, and the underworld animatics have such better versions of the ones that have been chosen. Still great reaction

Hey, Morgan thought I let you know that. You know that I saw the drop date for help of a boss Susan 3 episode 1. It is gonna be on Septemberth of this year. Sincerely Paranormal date 127 or chance. I'm gonna slap it. I can't wait to see it and I need to download p*** video.-

Chance

I loved how you started with a little singing gag which Jorge does from time to time. 🤣

KriszGamer00

SOMEONE WHO ACTUALLY READ THE HOMERIC POEM THANK GOODNESS! Yeah the whole TW bit people spew about Odysseus’ mother is something that is never said, and her phrasing implies she died from grief probably during the 10 years he was at Troy

EDHPlayer

It’s never said WHEN she dies, but it’s alluded to that it was during the Trojan war, as that’s what she specifies

EDHPlayer

also his sister later

I was also wondering (since doggo and Mar mar are so adorable I'm guessing they distracted you which they would've distracted me to 🥰) have you listened to circe saga since and if you have, do you have a favorite circe saga song?

PinkPonytail _Girl

Fun fact the words of all the souls are their last thoughts before they died, so polites still wished for peace in the moments of his death 😃

PinkPonytail _Girl

All I can say on this one: keep the prophesy in mind going forward, because when it comes to Greek tragedies, prophecies always come true. Also: added heartbreak. Some internationals say that his mom held out just long enough to see Ody’s ship. But when the wind bag was opened she though the storm had sunk it and killed him, leaving her to die of heartbreak. (And that’s the kinder death compared to the other interpretation)

Adrian_B

The saga was pretty emotional. Little interesting fact. Odysseus‘s mom is actually voiced by Jorge’s (the creator) real mom. She came in just to record that little part. A little further on you’ll find out that his dad also sang for one of the characters. Also, I was so mad that we didn’t get Hades in this series! Jorge said that he wanted to as well, but he felt like it didn’t fit into the story. And if you think this is bad, just wait until the next saga you were gonna cry your eyes out and be so mad !

Meghan Ross

I love how you started this out with something so cute for how dark this gets. 🐶🐱 Also LOVE the Alastor keyboard pad! ❤🦌😈

In the source material, they don't actually travel into the Underworld, but summon the dead with offerings of food and wine at the entrance to the underworld at a harbor at the western edge of the world (note that this is specific to the Odyssey. Some other stories from Greek and Roman mythology say Odysseus DID actually travel to the Underworld, but the Odyssey doesn't). They also talk to some additional spirits beyond their friends and family and Tiresias, most notably Hercules (well, Heracles, since this is the Greek version and Hercules is the Roman version of his name). In "Ruthlessness," Poseidon says there are 43 men left out of the original 600, yet here the shades of the dead say there are 558 dead. The additional death was Elpenor, who died by getting drunk and falling off the roof of Circe's palace. The crew left for the Underworld in such a hurry that they didn't realize he was gone until they met his spirit, where he asked them to properly cremate and bury him (in the source material, the crew returns to Circe's island to do this and get some more sailing advice from Circe, but this never happens in Epic). A song showing Elpenor's death was written for Epic, but cut from the final version- fitting for the character whose whole thing was being forgotten- leaving the number of the dead as an easter egg. Having a "gift" for making predictions that you regret fits perfectly for a show about Greek mythology. There's all sorts of stories of Apollo giving people prophecy-related curses for angering him. The fleet was within sight of Ithaca when the wind bag was opened. According to some interpretations, Odysseus's mother Anticlea personally saw the fleet swept away by the storm and believed it had been destroyed with all hands lost, and committed suicide afterwards. The Odyssey itself isn't that specific, just saying she died of grief while Odysseus was at war. There's several conflicting stories about Tiresias and several cases of his name being associated with prophecies in stories that definitely had nothing to do with him in addition to the cases where it definitely is actually supposed to be Tiresias (his most notable appearances before his death are in the stories of Narcissus, Oedipus, and Antigone), but there's three things pretty much every source agrees on: he was a prophet, he was blind (the blind seer who has willingly or otherwise traded their worldly sight for otherworldly is a common archetype in mythologies worldwide, and Tiresias isn't even the only one in Greek mythology), and he changed gender at least twice. The most common version of this story says Tiresias was born a man and was transformed into a woman by Hera, goddess of marriage and family, as punishment after he found a pair of mating snakes and hit them with his walking stick. Tiresias lived as a woman for seven years, becoming a priestess of Hera and marrying and having children, before receiving a prophecy that he could transform himself back if he found the mating snakes again, with sources varying about whether he had to hit them again or leave them alone this time. There's also a less common version where Tiresias was born a woman and transformed into a man after offering Apollo, god of music, poetry, prophecy, archery, and in some interpretations the sun, sexual favors in exchange for music lessons and then rejecting him afterwards. This version then has Tiresias get swapped back and forth several times by several different gods before Aphrodite finally transforms her back into a woman, and then into a mouse. Most other stories about Tiresias go with the version who was originally male, including the Odyssey. Tiresias's blindness and prophecy are connected to each other in every version, with the prophecy being compensation for being blinded by the gods, and in some interpretations connected to his gender stuff as well. The non-gender-related version says that he was walking in the woods and accidentally stumbled across Athena bathing at a spring. Depending on the source, he was either blinded because any mortal who saw a god without their consent would be immediately blinded, or Athena did it as a knee-jerk reaction to a mortal man seeing her. Either way, Athena realized he hadn't meant to spy on her, but couldn't undo the blinding, so she granted him prophecy as compensation. The gender-related version says Zeus and Hera (they're married, and despite Hera being the goddess of marriage, Zeus is the least faithful husband of all time) were arguing over whether men or women experience more pleasure during sex. Hera said it was men, and Zeus said it was women. They summoned Tiresias to settle the argument, as he actually had experience with both, and he said it was women. Hera blinded him in anger, but Zeus granted him prophecy as compensation for it. Most prophecies in Greek mythology are ominous and tragic. Ironically, in the Odyssey, Tiresias is actually a lot more direct and helpful than most Greek oracles or his portrayal in Epic, giving Odysseus a fairly detailed and specific warning about a danger he'll encounter (exactly what that is currently remains in spoiler territory). The Greek chorus during No Longer You lists various threats Odysseus has yet to face. Their last, most dramatic line, as Odysseus falls from the cliff, is Odysseus's own name.

Haven't started listening to songs yet - still going to quickly coo over animals and question if MarMar is nickname from a show because I swear I've heard it before 17:30 - I feel guilty but the laugh I gave when you started and immediately stopped when you heard Pancakes singing I can could fully buy this saga being shorter than the rest due the emotional rollarcoaster it sends people down

tapdisneyintome

37:00. You had every right to be afraid😬

[Mod] Do me a favor, y'all, please try to include a trigger warning on some of your "fun facts" (which, btw, irks me because said "fun" fact is not "fun" at all). Please keep in mind that those topics are in fact triggering to some folks, and a lot of people are coming into Epic for the first time (including Morgan) so please do not try to ruin anything.

Spywi

Loved the animal cameos! 😄❤️ Polites! And then when you think the tears are over his mum unexpectedly appears to him! 😭 Yeh your cat n dog knew you would need them for comfort this saga ❤️ I just watched Epic for the first time last weekend and I'm obsessed!

FuzzBird

[Mod] @jessie H, Please edit your message to include a trigger warning for this. Idk why people insist on posting a “fun fact” about something potentially triggering for others.

21:25 Well I mean, you are watching a greek tragedy. 38:30 Also I noticed that you noticed Penelope ripping off the headband, so in case you didn't know, for extra suffering, that was Polites Headband. So Penelope ripping it off symbolises Ody losing/letting go of the "Greet the world with open arms" way of living that Polites tried to guide him towards.

Ditte Gildebro

I don’t think you noticed, but the headband belonged to Polites! So when it’s ripped off of Ody, it’s symbolizing the end of the “Open Arms” ideology he’s been following up until now.

Oh it's SO much worse in the source material of the Odyssey with Odysseus' mom. She died only a little bit after the incident with the bag when his fleet was SO close to home. (Mind the incident that sends them off course is a touch different, but details) So he COULD have seen her. Had his voyage been less damned by the gods. Honestly a different animatic makes it worse for the mom part, portraying Odysseus attempting as he did in the odyssey proper to embrace her three times. And it broke my damn heart.

River

Here's a few sad facts for this saga! (Potential TW of death) 1) The voice actor for Oddy's mom is Jorge's actual mother! 2) What the souls sing are canonically their last thoughts before they died so polities last thoughts were greet the world with open arms... 3) in no longer you, the backing vocals actual are saying things that will happen in future sagas however are purposefully incredibly difficult to make out. Not even the fandom knew what the words were until like the last saga- people were analysing it like crazy. I won't say what they are as to not spoil but when you finish, go back and listen to the song and it becomes so much clearer. 4) Its said his mom died of a broken heart, not old age. If he hadn't bumped into posiden/ gave away his address/killed the cyclops like athena said, he would've been able to get back with his mom alive. Side note: Monster is such a good act 1 ending song.

AceOfTheDeck

😭😭😭

Julie Moum

Oh goodie, I get to be the one to say it :D 1: Odysseus’ mother was voiced by Jorge’s mom and they had to do multiple takes because she kept crying while singing 2: Odysseus’ mother was alive right until the point she saw the ships get blown away by the storm from the bag (they were within sight of Ithaca) and then either died from heartbreak or walked into the sea after the ships and drowned herself.
