Ben Swartz being a comedian makes Dewey wanting his own Tonight Show make sense somehow. XD

Reverie Mephisto

One of the crew's biggest stated goals with this show was to give the triplets their own distinct personalities. For almost their entire history prior to this, the triplets were treated as somewhere between "interchangeable" and "one person in three bodies," to the point where comic artists semi-regularly forgot how many of them there were and accidentally created a fourth triplet by drawing all three of them in the background even while one was supposed to be doing something separate in the foreground (a 1999 comic gave this an official canon explanation: when they were younger, the triplets were struck by lightning, creating a fourth triplet named Phooey Duck who phases in and out of reality at random. When a franchise runs for 90 years, it picks up some WEIRD lore). Pretty much the only attempt at making them their own separate people was the 1996 show Quack Pack, a show about the boys as teenagers that was extremely 90s and is generally not remembered well. This episode is specifically meant to highlight the new approach to handling them. "I'm so unsettled by all of this" is ABSOLUTELY the correct response to Doofus. In the original show, he was another member of the Junior Woodchucks (as were all three of the triplets rather than just Huey), and his main defining character trait was that he was fat and easily distracted by food. The staff have said that he was the one character in the original they really didn't like, and obviously a character who exists entirely for the sake of fat jokes would be frowned upon these days, so instead, after googling a bit to make sure they wouldn't be offending, as Frank Angones put it, "some passionate Cult of Doofus fandom" and finding only "a couple drawings of him falling down and kissing a hamburger," they made him into the sort of person who would actually run a cult.
