I discovered your channel because of OFMD and have been thoroughly enjoying your reactions. I've been trying to space them out rather than rush through everything, and this is by far the hardest episode to wait a beat on, and not just immediately click on Ep3! Such a cliffhanger.

2024-10-28 03:38:55 +0000 UTCAs far as I know, they needed more of the cast to be from AoNz, as the whole production moved there in order to save money, after Max slashed they budget by 40% and two full episodes. Gus Khan was the actor with least screen-time in s1 (and David Fane (Fang) is AoNz-based, so they obvs. wouldnβt get rid of him β he also has a much more embedded character in the story, than Ivan was.) I was sad to see Ivan go (I quite like Gus), but I also see why he ended up being the choice, if they *had* to pick someone to cut.

What exactly happened is unclear, but I assume he was cut because they wanted to bring in Archie and Ivan was definitely the crew member with the least screen time/story involvement. Who knows they might have wanted to keep both, but with max slashing the budget like crazy... π¬ The people that went overboard were the additional background crew members Ed and Izzy gathered up from somewhere since the marooning to have a more functional crew (even though realistically, crew for a ship the size of the revenge should have been about 10 times what we have in the show)

2024-08-14 10:51:30 +0000 UTCSeconding everyone saying to hang in there and small fun fact palette cleanser: While I don't think Zhang every did it, dragging ships over land instead of sailing all the way around south America was actually something that was at least attempted pre-Panama canal and it does make sense for Zhang wanting to bring over her enormous fleet from the pacific Ocean. (at her peak, the real Zhang had thousands hundreds of ships with a combined number of 50-80k crew members which also explains the whole 'conquering China' business)

2024-08-13 21:08:12 +0000 UTCI agree that what happened with Stede (him running off instead of going with Ed) is what broke him, and Izzy confronting him in the Season 1 finale really just pushed him into this totally toxic cycle (something Izzy clearly regrets). This episode is super rough, but we start climbing out of the sadness next episode! Hang in there, I know it can be really emotionally rough, especially for empathetic folks, but it's such a beautiful show, despite the rough patches.

The suffering in this ep is as bad as it gets, so please keep that in mind. There are some beautiful, meaningful moments in the next ep, and then we'll get some of our silly pirate show back, so hang in there. The angst makes the eventual sweetness all the sweeter, doesn't it, surely? :D
