The city where we live is quite large, but it’s not exactly brimming with hot topics. However, there’s one occasion each year when our city pops up on the national TV news across Japan.
That event is called “Amour du Chocolat,” a chocolate festival. Chocolates from around the world gather in a single department store’s event space.🍫
I’m not quite sure how it turned out this way, but rather than Tokyo or Osaka, this event in Nagoya—where we live—has become the biggest chocolate-selling event in Japan every year.
Perhaps because Nagoya doesn’t have as many trendy shops as Tokyo, Osaka, or Kyoto, everyone takes this chance to buy fashionable chocolates.
I don’t know the exact sales figures, but famous pâtissiers, who are usually extremely busy, take the time to come to Nagoya—arguably the only major city in Japan that hasn’t seen an influx of international tourists—for promotions and fan events. So it must be a really significant event.
Every day, there are huge crowds, long lines, and money flying around—just like Comiket. In any genre, the enthusiasm of fans can be astonishing.
I don’t have any particular connection to Valentine’s Day, but I do love chocolate, so I’d like to wait until the crowds thin out a bit and go buy some delicious chocolate.
Although, I can’t really bring myself to spend about 4 dollars on a single piece!😂
