In my last article I talked about baked sweet potatoes(Yakiimo🍠), and here are some pictures of a baked sweet potato I found on a recent visit to a pharmacy.
The silver part of this machine is an oven, and sweet potatoes are baked in this part.
After baking, the sweet potatoes are placed on pebbles placed on the top of the machine. This not only keeps the sweet potatoes warm, but also enhances their sweetness.
By the way, as I mentioned at the beginning of this article, this is a pharmacy. However, many pharmacies in Japan now play the role of supermarkets. This pharmacy also has everything from fresh food and snacks to daily necessities. Sometimes you will see clerks in white coats working the cash register or taking out items. Perhaps it is a strange sight.
Perhaps it is because they are such quirky stores, but pharmacies, especially in urban areas, are very popular tourist attractions for international travelers. Many stores also offer tax-free processing.
Things have calmed down recently, but perhaps we will see the cash registers crowded with tourists again in the future.
