Patreon sales taxes heads up + update

Hey guys!

As of July 1st, Patreon is required to start charging sales tax on some pledges due to new rulings on the matter. This affects multiple countries (US included, with differences from state to state).

Less than half of you will be will be charged sales tax, because 'donations'/support, early access and exclusive content (poll voting, patreon-exclusive art) is exempt from tax mostly everywhere. For those who do get sales taxes, the amount will in most part be very small. I’ve set up the benefits taxable to ensure save you as much as I can from the sales taxes. For more details on what is taxed and how much is taxed per country, there's info here.
The money that Patreon collects from the taxes are paid directly to local governments.

If you’re in a location where sales tax apply, you should have received or expect to receive an email from Patreon with similar info. But if this post and the link above doesn't answer the questions you may have, Patreon’s customer support team here can absolutely fill you in on whatever else you may want to know.

On funner news, I'm gonna open commissions next week, so keep your eyes peeled if you were waiting for a spot :)
