Naruto: Copy System#755+756: Unohana Retsu is on the Warpath, Glad to See You’re Still Breathing

Shin held Yoruichi aloft, a cold smirk playing on his lips.

"Explain yourself. If you don't give me a valid reason, I'm going to teach you a lesson right here and now."

"Can you put me down first? I swear I didn't mean to kick you! Is it too late to apologize now?" Yoruichi felt utterly mortified.

This wasn't the 2nd Division barracks, where no one would bat an eye. The members of her squad were used to her antics. But they were out in public now, with countless eyes on them. The embarrassment was palpable.

"You didn't mean it? Fine, I'll let you save face." Shin set her down.

'Just you wait...' Yoruichi thought, glaring at Shin's back. 'Once I'm stronger than you, you'll get a taste of this too.' Of course, this was just an internal monologue—she wouldn't dare say it out loud. If she did, Shin would undoubtedly treat her to the loving embrace of his iron fist.

"I can't read your mind, but I know you're plotting something against me," Shin said, glancing back at her.

"Wait, can you actually read minds?" Yoruichi's eyes lit up with curiosity.

"Of course. Want to try it out?" Shin asked.

He wasn't bluffing. He could actually do it. At a certain level, Observation Haki could be used to sense the thoughts of others, similar to the Voice of All Things, though not quite as advanced.

"I think I'll pass." Although Yoruichi didn't believe him, she wasn't willing to take the risk. If it was a bluff, no harm done. But if it was real, all her inner thoughts would be exposed. That was a definite no.

————————

Soon, they arrived at the Shin'ō Academy. Shin dropped Yoruichi off but didn't leave right away, instead taking a moment to look around. Not much had changed since he was last here—it was still the same old place.

"You really are everywhere, aren't you, Kyōraku Shunsui?"

Suddenly, Shin spotted a familiar figure crouched nearby, sizing up the students—with a particular focus on the female ones.

Hearing his name, Kyōraku Shunsui looked up. Dressed in a flamboyant pink kimono, he flashed a smile and waved at Shin.

"What are you doing here?"

Kyōraku was just as puzzled to see Shin at the Shin'ō Academy.

"I'm here to round up creepy perverts like you," Shin said, giving Kyōraku a sidelong glance.

"Ahem, don't misunderstand. I'm scouting new members for the 8th Division."

Kyōraku quickly defended himself, not wanting his reputation to be ruined.

"Cut the act. I know exactly what you're like. You're here to sweet-talk the female students, aren't you?"

"Ahem, I'm not that frivolous. I would never do something like that," Kyōraku said, shaking his head.

In reality, Kyōraku was all talk and no action. He was, in essence, all bark and no bite.

"I'm genuinely here to scout new members. The 8th Division lost a lot of good people," Kyōraku said, his smile fading into a more somber expression.

Shin knew this to be true. The 8th Division was responsible for intelligence gathering, and they had suffered heavy losses during a recent mission to investigate Hueco Mundo.

"So, have you found anyone yet?"

Shin chuckled coldly. Scouting students by squatting on the side of the road? Unlikely. He'd be looking at the graduating class if he were serious.

Seemingly caught, Kyōraku just laughed it off and adjusted the straw hat on his head.

"Come on, since we've run into each other, let's go for a drink. My treat."

Kyōraku was trying to buy his silence, to prevent the story of him creepily watching female students from spreading throughout the Seireitei. It wouldn't just be his own reputation on the line—the entire 8th Division would be disgraced.

"Since you're paying, I can't very well refuse," Shin said with a smile.

Seeing that smile, Kyōraku felt a pang of pain for his wallet. Shin was a notoriously big eater.

————————

"This is where you're treating me to drinks and dinner?"

"..." Shin stared at the entertainment club in front of him. It seemed Kyōraku was treating him to a night on the town.

"That's right. A little relaxation," Kyōraku said with a smile.

Shin followed him inside. It wasn't his first time here. The place wasn't as seedy as it looked—it was mostly just song and dance, with the performers wearing slightly more revealing outfits. Otherwise, it would never be allowed to operate in the Seireitei.

"Looks like you're really prepared to break the bank."

Shin shot Kyōraku a grin. The prices here were even higher.

"Go easy on me, Shin. I still need to save up for my marriage fund," Kyōraku pleaded.

"You don't even have a wife. What marriage fund are you saving for?" Shin looked at the old bachelor with disdain.

"Are you openly looking down on me? That's just too much," Kyōraku said, feigning offense.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM—!!!

"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?"

As Shin and Kyōraku were drinking, a loud explosion rocked the area from outside. Shin sensed a familiar spiritual pressure, and his expression changed. He immediately used Yomotsu Hirasaka and vanished, leaving a dumbfounded Kyōraku behind.

"Where's Shin?" Unohana Retsu walked in. After scanning the room and not finding him, she turned to the still-stunned Kyōraku.

Kyōraku's heart was pounding. The moment he saw Unohana, he knew he was in deep trouble.

"Um, Shin? There's no Shin here. It's just me," Kyōraku said quickly.

It wasn't that Kyōraku was being noble—he was trying to save himself... If he ratted Shin out, Shin would probably be fine, but he would be finished. Unohana might not lay a hand on Shin, but she wouldn't hesitate with him. If he didn't want to get cut down, he had to find a way to talk his way out of this.

At the same time, Kyōraku was baffled. How did Unohana find out so quickly? Her intel was terrifyingly fast.

Unohana narrowed her eyes at Kyōraku. Even though he claimed to be alone, she had already received concrete information. It wasn't just Kyōraku who had come here—Shin was with him. A member of the 4th Division had seen them and reported it directly to her.

That was why she had stormed over. It was just a coincidence—and very bad luck for Shin and Kyōraku.

"Kyōraku, glad to see you’re still breathing. I can rest easy now."

Shin walked into the 8th Division barracks with a fruit basket to visit Kyōraku Shunsui, who was wrapped in bandages from head to toe. Ukitake Jūshirō was also there, looking after him.

"Are you here to laugh at my misery? I almost died, you bastard, and you're here enjoying the show?"

Kyōraku glared at Shin, genuinely on the verge of death. He was lucky to be alive.

"You should really blame yourself. You're the one who took me there. I haven't even settled the score with you yet," Shin said, pulling up a chair and sitting down.

"How can you be so heartless? Are you even human?" Kyōraku stared at Shin. If he weren't so heavily injured by Unohana, he would have definitely fought Shin to the death.

"By the way, how come you're completely fine?"

Kyōraku looked at Shin, who didn't have a single scratch on him, not even a tear in his clothes, and felt even more annoyed.

"What do you think could happen to me?"

Shin said with a light chuckle. Although Unohana had beaten Kyōraku to a pulp, she hadn't laid a finger on Shin.

"The more I think about it, the more pissed off I get."

"Kyōraku, I think what Shin said before was right. If you hadn't taken him to that place, this wouldn't have happened. I recall Captain Unohana already warned you, didn't she?"

Ukitake said to Kyōraku.

What Ukitake said made Kyōraku's expression stiffen, but it was the truth. Kyōraku had brought this upon himself.

"Shin, seeing me this badly injured, aren't you going to say something?"

Kyōraku was still not satisfied, mainly because of the contrast between him and Shin, who was completely unscathed.

"Didn't I come to visit you? I even brought you fruit. Aren't you grateful?"

"Grateful my ass! I heard you know healing Kidō. Hurry up and heal me," Kyōraku said, practically spitting blood.

He had no choice. The 4th Division wouldn't treat him. Unohana had given the order. He had been sent to the 4th Division, only to be carried right back out.

"That's no problem, but you'll have to pay," Shin said to Kyōraku with a grin.

Money was needed even in the Seireitei, and while a captain's salary wasn't low, it wasn't exactly high either. So, if there was a chance to earn some extra cash, Shin wouldn't refuse.

"You've got some nerve. Don't you remember why I got hurt in the first place? And you have the audacity to ask me for money?"

Kyōraku shot up in anger, but the movement pulled at his injuries, and he immediately lay back down.

"Don't say that. You might have taken a beating, but you also got out of paying yesterday's bill, didn't you?"

Because Unohana had stormed in, Kyōraku had successfully skipped out on paying.

"You call that a win? They'll probably blacklist me. I might never be able to go back."

Though he had saved some money, he might not be able to go back in the future. Thinking about it, the loss was quite significant.

"I think you should look on the bright side. You'll save a lot of money in the future," Shin said, patting Kyōraku's shoulder.

"Can you be more careful? You're touching my wounds."

Kyōraku said to Shin through gritted teeth.

"Oh, my apologies." Shin then used healing Kidō to restore Kyōraku's injuries, not the Mystical Palm Technique, but Kidō.

Shin had learned healing Kidō from Unohana Retsu, who had once sought guidance on the subject from Tenjirō Kirinji.

"I didn't expect you to be so skilled in healing Kidō, Shin. I really don't know how you find the time to learn so many different things,"

Kyōraku couldn't help but say.

"That's probably what they call talent," Shin said with a smile, not at all modest.

"Can't you be a little humble? I'm a genius too," Kyōraku said with some pride. And to be fair, he really was a genius.

"Seeing that you're fine, I can rest easy. I have other things to do, so I won't interrupt you two,"

Shin glanced at Kyōraku and Ukitake, then turned to leave.

"Hey, what do you mean by that?"

Kyōraku shouted after Shin.

"Looks like I'll have to keep my distance from you from now on," Ukitake said, glancing at Kyōraku.

One reason was to avoid any misunderstandings, but that wasn't the main one. The most important reason was to avoid being on Captain Unohana's bad side. If the members of his 13th Division were forbidden from receiving treatment at the 4th Division, it would be a disaster.

After that, Ukitake also left, leaving a miserable-looking Kyōraku behind. Though Shin had healed him with Kidō, Kyōraku still needed a few days to fully recover.

————————

Shin returned to the 2nd Division barracks and saw Yoruichi, who had just returned. Besides Yoruichi, Unohana Retsu was also there.

"Why is she here too?" Yoruichi asked Shin.

"I should be asking you that. You're not going home, so why are you here?" Shin asked, looking at Yoruichi.

She was really treating the 2nd Division like her home. She wouldn't go back to her own home, but she'd come here.

"It was my grandfather who told me to come," Yoruichi said to Shin.

This time, Yoruichi wasn't lying. It really was her grandfather who had told her to come.

"If you can be here, why can't I?" Unohana said faintly.

Unohana actually considered Yoruichi a nuisance, a bothersome girl. If this were in the past, with her old temper, she probably would have used her sword to drive Yoruichi out.

"Shin, I finished your paperwork for you," Unohana said to Shin.

"Is that so? Then thank you, Retsu," Shin said with a smile to Unohana. He really had to thank her for this. After all, Shin had a psychological aversion to dealing with paperwork.

"You, a captain of the 4th Division, actually came to the 2nd Division to do paperwork. Won't that cause any problems?" Yoruichi looked at Unohana with suspicion.

"Don't underestimate adults, little one." Unohana said, patting Yoruichi on the head with narrowed eyes. Yoruichi's face instantly showed annoyance. She hated it when people treated her like a child who hadn't grown up.

Besides, Yoruichi was already sixteen—she didn't consider herself a child anymore.

"How's Kyōraku Shunsui?" Unohana asked Shin.

"I think you should know his situation better than I do."

Hearing Unohana's question, Shin couldn't help but say. After all, it was Unohana who had beaten him up, so she naturally knew best.
