Btw I’ve just read “the bakunin-marx split in the 1st international” on the anarchist library, it’s taken from ch 13-14 of “Karl Marx- the story of his life” (1918 by Franz Mehring). I wondered if you have read it? I know you are working on a book about historical disagreements between anarchists and Marxists and it’s very relevant to that. While the author is clearly a Marxist he is very defensive of Bakunin and critical of how Marx treated him. I’ve heard you talk on podcasts etc about The Hague congress (Marx and Engels believing Bakunin wanted to take over and turn the international into an all anarchist organisation and deliberately rigged the congress to get a majority). Mehring’s version is a bit different (more that Marx etc believed lies from Utin and associated Bakunin with blackmail attempts by Netchayeff, then the congress was very chaotic, and the case against Bakunin was made on a report by a committee of 5, one of whom voted against kicking out Bakunin and another of whom later turned out to be a police spy). I wondered what your thoughts are on mehring’s version of events
