Never discount anyone formerly known as the "greatest swordsman in the Jedi Order"... Dooku. Just like IRL Christopher Lee who was simply one of the coolest human beings in history. He was a world class swordsman, war hero, author, musician, poet and of course incredible actor among many other things. Christopher Lee was the man. RIP. BTW Dooku was originally solely motivated by his desire to root out the corruption and inequality that was rampant in the Galactic Republic. He saw how bad things were and wanted to change them even though it went against the "Jedi way". Now undoubtedly he went too far and was corrupted by the Dark Side but his original intentions were honorable if not a bit misguided.

Now they realize they're playing right into their enemies hands, that the Clones are part of the Siths plans. And they decide to conceal it all from everyone, the public, even the Senate, who the Jedi answer to. They're just losing their way more and more. Palpatines manipulation aren't just putting him in power, he's weakening his mortal enemy by making them make decisions that push them from the light.
