I saw this film for the first time at around 12 years old. The only thing I knew about it was the shower scene. I was engrossed and might have been my first black and white movie. I've got a lot of affection for it. It's such a well crafted piece and not big budget at all. Htchcock wanted to make a smaller scale, grittier film than he had made the previous decade. He wanted to make a real shocker. The shower scene itself took around a whole week of shooting. The stabbing sounds were made by stabbing melons and the blood flowing down the drain was chocolate syrup. An influential film, in a way the "mother" of the Halloween series. Jamie Lee Curtis being Janet Leigh's daughter as noted in your review, but also Sam Loomis being the name of Marion's boyfriend being itself supplanted in notoriety by Doctor Sam Loomis in Halloween. Marion Crane and Sheriff Chambers becoming Marion Chambers, the nurse that worked alongside Loomis. PS: There is a Psycho franchise. Psycho 2 which came out in 1983 is actually a very worthy sequel. There's also the recent Bates Motel television series which is a reboot set in the present day about Norman and his mom's relationship. American Psycho is not related to this franchise. It's a very dark and satirical horror/comedy film starring a pre-Batman Christian Bale. It was made in 2000 and his set in the late 1980's.
