The treasure chest was from Casper's dad which revealed to be Casper's prized baseball, signed by Duke Snider. Duke Snider was born September 19, 1926 and made his debut as a baseball player in 1947. In the film, from the photo/portrait of Casper's dad, J.T. McFadden, the style of clothes, and McFadden's moustache, it looks like it was taken in the late 1800's/early 1900's which possibly indicates that Casper and his dad lived around 19th century, and this sort of created a plot hole.

2024-10-28 00:08:19 +0000 UTCThere are plot holes in this movie: -Ghosts' memories The movie suggests that ghosts may lose their memories over time, but it doesn't explain why Dr. Harvey forgets things. It's possible that he was drunk when he died and remained drunk as a ghost. -What happens to Dr. Harvey's body The movie doesn't explain what happens to Dr. Harvey's dead body after he's brought back to life. -Casper's baseball player Casper says his favorite baseball player is Duke Snider, but Duke wasn't born until 1926, and Casper lived in the late 19th century. According to Reddit: In Casper movie, when a person becomes a ghost, they forget their lives (Casper had to be reminded how he died, Dr. Harvey forgot who Kat was) but Carrigan remembered the treasure she had been looking for while alive and went straight to it's exact location right after her death. Possibly, it's because maybe Carrigan had recently died and Casper was dead for longer. The possible answer I heard from Reddit is this would only work if the memory is lost within a few hours of death, as Dr. Harvey had only been killed the night before. What would make more sense is typically, memory of events prior to death are lost in death, however, strong feelings and emotion allows the deceased to retain their memories. Carrigan is so focused on claiming her treasure, while Casper was a little kid and Harvey was just depressed, grieving, and struggling to do right by his daughter. These weights being lifted from his shoulders by his death would explain how and why he is so happy as a ghost, he was finally free.

I remembered that Casper and his three uncles were also in the Pizza Hut commercial since the premiere of Casper (1995). Even the Pepsi commercial when Casper try to get Pepsi out of the fridge in the same manor from the movie but it got stuck because Casper cannot make the solid objects phase through. In the classic cartoon, Casper the Friendly Ghost has four fingers instead of five because it's a common design choice in animation, where drawing only four fingers is considered easier and less time-consuming than drawing five. Most characters in western animation have four fingers because it is easier for animators to draw. Casper has four fingers in the 1995 movie Casper and it is the only film to show Casper in his human form with five fingers in live-action. There's a prequel called Casper: A Spirited Beginning (1997) if you want to learn more about Casper and his uncles Stretch, Fatso, and Stinkie. There's also a sequel called Casper Meets Wendy (1998) after Casper (1995). The Ghostly Trio (Stretch, Fatso, and Stinkie, formerly Fatso, Fusso, and Lazo) made their first appearance in Harvey comic called Casper and the Ghostly Trio in 1945 and also made their first appearance in Casper the Friendly Ghost cartoon called Fright From Wrong which was released in 1956. The Whipstaff Manor was originally owned by the McFadden family and, following the incarceration and death of Casper's father J.T. McFadden, it was uninhabited by living people for about a century before it was inherited by Carrigan Crittenden from her late father. It's still unknown of how did Carrigan's dad got the mansion and I think the will and the deeds saying about treasure which it actually belongs to Casper instead of Carrigan. The treasure chest was revealed to be Casper's prized baseball, signed by Duke Snider; the map was part of a game Casper played with his father. Carrigan invited the Harveys to stay there to sort out the ghost problem, but died without writing a will to leave the property to anyone. At the end of the film, the Harveys are implied to continue living there, but they do not and have not ever owned the property (and given that it's a fairly large estate, it's worth quite a lot of money.) The ghosts in Casper movie have the ability to touch and can phase through solid objects but the ghosts cannot make solid objects become intangible.
