Frieren Episodes 3 + 4 Early Access - Dusk to Dawn

Comments

you have almost certainly considered this far more than the author of the original work

LAMPOON MAN

Himmel translated from German is heaven or could mean the sky so whenever they mention his name the anime cuts to a shot showcasing the sky. A little touch they do fyi.

Ikust

Spelled the same in Danish too. Wouldn't surprise me if it's similar in Swedish and/or Norwegian as well.

Ashtail Foxclaw

I find it interesting that "Auréole" is the only French word in this sea of German names. "Flamme" could also be considered one, given that the word is spelled the same in both languages.

Zwei

Excellent call on that interpretation. I personally think the concept of faith is really deftly handled in Frieren. It acknoledges the probable nihilistic truth, but the want of a rewarding afterlife is a driving force for characters like Hieter, Fern, Eisen and Himmel to build a better world around them.

Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3 are even better what you talking about!? :O

On the topic of religion in this episode: I think what they mean by "it's more convenient that way" isn't "it's convenient, so it must be true, trust be bro", but "let's pretend it is that way", like one would pretend Santa is going to bring them presents for Christmas.

Digit

I completely agree.

Also, Milet's "Anytime, Anywhere" aka Frieren's ED, brought me to tears so many times and I still want that shot of all the floral cut outs coming together as Frieren's face (50 seconds into the ED, give or take) as a poster on my wall.

Not only did the dwarf say he liked sour grapes... Frieren later learned a folk spell to make sour grapes. She said so as an aside somewhere in the first two of episodes. And her comment that seemingly was just a random example of an odd spell she collected now has extra meaning. An awesome yet oh so subtle payoff here in episode 3! :)

Ragashingo

I would recommend Yaosobi's full version of the OP, I prefer those animations beyond the ones in the anime. They also made a great english version called Brave, with the rhyming still intact after the translation.

Robin Berglund

The fan translation really killed any intrigue about the next epi. Crunchy translated it as "Phantoms of the Dead" and it maintained more mystery. This show, however, is pure...magic. The growth of every character is rarely "dramatic" but it feels real and so so satisfying. Frieren, to me, is genre defining.

Not sure about others but seeing the subs back to the off ones in the fourth episode hurt, still though very happy and thankful for the reactions and hopefully the rest will be the correct ones.

We're back again, babieeee.
