Except that in this instance, Kate being threatened with harm was the only thing that got Jack to back down. He was being ludicrously stubborn before that and refused to listen to reason even when it was clear they were outnumbered and surrounded. Without The Others threatening Kate's life, Jack would likely have gotten one or all of them killed.

I'm curious about where Storm, Kimmy, and Tom fall on the "Should Kate have gone?" debate, some people think she should have been able to go and Jack was being too controlling(Kate has been included on "dealings" with the others in the past and been fine of course), others think Jack told her not to come because he just wanted her to remain safe, his tone was wrong, and under stress, he didn't mean to sound angry but he didn't want himself and Sawyer to be distracted by concern for her safety, and from the outcome of the episode, that fear was warranted. I've always been kind of on the fence. Kate has the right to go of course and is good with a gun, but strategically is it the correct move? There's a reason both male and female soldiers don't go to war with their partners, and it has nothing to do with any lack of faith in them or their abilities, it has to do with thinking about them instead of the battle.

Jack pisses me off so much in this episode. Kate isn't his daughter or his dog. Where does he get off ordering her around? Especially since she'd be a smarter choice to go than he would, given that Jack has *no idea* what he's doing. He's very controlling and it's NOT OKAY. At least even when Sawyer is being a jerk, he always treats Kate as an equal.

Wow I never even noticed lol Didn't most go back to the beach after Claire was attacked in the caves back in S1, though?

Breaking the 4th wall a little bit, the real reason we don't see the caves as much anymore is because it was an indoor set,. Now we have the indoor set of the hatch so it was a budget thing.
