The Witcher 103 | FULL AKIMA Reactions

Wow, this was very scary! The screams alone gave us chills! I think my new favorite thing is when Geralt states, "oh F*ck". OMG, LOL!

The Witcher 103 | FULL AKIMA Reactions

Comments

I think the other comments covered things pretty well but to clear things up a little more (spoiler free) Yennefer's story begins around 70 years before Ciri's story and Geralt's story begins about 20 years before Ciri's, each episode both those character's get closer to the time of Ciri's story. Yennefer and Geralt age slowly which is why they look the same. Hope that helps a little. Thanks for continuing this show, I know it can be confusing and it doesn't hold anything back but it definitely is worth it in the end and hopefully in future seasons. The main story of the books are excellent.

I mentioned in a post on the first episode that this is a show directed towards the fans who already know the lore. It's very confusing for newcomers and there are a lot of things that are never explained. So, let's try to break some of this episode down. First, let's talk about Yennefer (and that's with a Y not a J, very confusing I know). There's a price for making her beautiful which is that she will forever be sterile. This was why her reproductive organ was removed and sacrificed. She can still have sex but will never be able to bear children. Next, let's talk about Geralt. It's believed by the average person that a witcher doesn't have emotions. This isn't entirely true. Their emotions are inhibited, most likely so they feel less fear when it comes time to hunt monsters. However, they are fully capable of loving and caring for others. Also, the potions that he takes help enhance his abilities during combat. You've also seen him use magical abilities during combat. These are known as signs and made with simple hand gestures. It is magic but mages see this as being inferior magic as there's no real art to it. Finally, we have Foltest. He was the little kid messing with his sister at the ball. So, as you already know, there are significant time jumps within episodes. Mages and witchers age slowly. So even when Foltest is an adult and becomes king, Geralt and Yennefer will continue to look young. And yes, Foltest did have an incestuous relationship with his sister which is how his daughter became a striga in the womb. Once again, very confusing but hopefully this cleared some things up for people who are watching this for the first time with no reference to the books or games.

I was planning to watch along with you guys and hopefully piece together the story that way but I broke and had to watch ahead a little bit so I saw this episode after yall's 1x2 reaction, so now seeing it again, it definitely helped to connect the confusing aspects of it. One part that stuck with me through both viewings, though, was when the elder witch walks over to young Foltest and his sister Adda at the ball with New Yennefer, and when Geralt was walking through the scary witch castle and there was a painting of them on the wall. That definitely helped me remember the king that Geralt met earlier was also Foltest, who apparently had a Game of Thrones type relationship with his sister, causing the birth of a bastard child that was cursed by the other guy who was gutted because he was in love with Adda as well, causing her death at the hands of her "babe", which is what the dying kid at the beginning was on about. ((hope im not getting anything mixed up))

Janitor

You asked for clarification of a point of the timeline. I'm not going to give full details in case I accidently spoil something. You were close when you said that the older king was the young man at the ball. That older king that Geralt met was actually the little boy who was harassing his sister at the ball. There are clues in every episode. They start off very subtle in episode 1, and then become more obvious as the show goes on. All of these clues rely on you remembering the names of people and places. As someone who did not read the books (or play the games), I did not pick up on everything until I got to episode 4 and then rewatched the first 3.
