Ghostbusters 2 | FULL AKIMA Reactions

Hi everyone and welcome back! This was so much fun to watch together! Having 4 of us together is rare and I hope we can make this more routine in the future! I think it helps Mom and Tom a lot too since Tom moved to Florida over a year ago. Happy early Halloween! Expect Clone Wars next!

Ghostbusters 2 | FULL AKIMA Reactions

This is pretty simple. They watched Top Gun and then Unstoppable (another Tony Scott film) won a poll. If you think there's any sort of "racism" here, you might want to watch their reactions to Men of Honor and Django Unchained. They've also watched many Will Smith films such as Bad Boys, I Am Legend, Independence Day and Men in Black 1+2. And of course they've seen and loved Black Panther.

Hi guys! This comment section really blew up and I wish I got to this sooner! I did private message CiviliNation earlier this week as well about a Movie Request, but I wanted to also extend more here. Most of you have been with us for a long time and know we have people all over the world that watch us and enjoy a huge variety of movies and shows. We have tried many different ways to watch content from your suggestions/opinions on how to approve our channel. Mom, Kim and I have never been true movie goers and have seen next to nothing Movie/Show wise (besides animations for me) and have watched content through requests. We volunteered doing this for almost 3 years, which we enjoyed doing, but it took up all our free time and we started struggling financially to keep this going. This channel really helped us grow even closer as family and friends as well as growing a dedicated and caring fanbase. We've gotten so many touching messages about how our videos have helped people get through some very difficult times which range from common challenges to very extreme circumstances... and I'm so emotionally honored that they can find some kind of comfort watching our videos. That alone really is very rewarding to us, so thank you! All of you supporting us as well, has given us opportunities to watch a whole lot more content and spend more time together (as well as be able to pay our bills too). We started watching Marvel movies because I enjoyed the ones I saw at the time and wanted to see Kim and Mom's reactions to those movies. Those were a success and many of our fans enjoyed watching with us. Popular requests do guide us the most for sure because that's the only way we can keep creating as much as we do.. but that doesn't mean we only watch the top requests all the time. I've also noticed that there's usually a chain reaction of related requests after a video is released- whether it be because of an actor, director or genre.. It's definately not a perfect system at all, but that's usually the pattern. We have taken on smaller requests a lot, but that doesn't always mean that the movie itself isn't well known. Most times, we don't know what a movie is even about until someone explains a basic premise to us or we go in completely blind (which some of you told us you'd rather we know beforehand, LOL- We are always learning!). We never purposely deter or select a random movie because of race. Those of you that know us, realize how much we despise racism and believe in equal rights. This is an emotional and sensitive topic for many of us... and I don't appreciate allegations that we are purposely choosing films with racist motives. That has never been and never will be the case. Although, I have noticed a trend of themed requests that date back to the beginning of our channel. I truly believe our channel circulates mainly around popular Fantasy and Science Fiction because that's the biggest fanbase we built. We do watch a variety of other films too and I love the dicussions that we have together as a community. Thank you all for your requests and discussions! I talk with fans everyday mainly through PM (I need to dupicate myself.. and feel so bad I can't talk with everyone.. xoxo). Every week we select one movie that is random- whether it almost wins certain POLLS for months or because of a kind message/comment request... sometimes I let Mom and Kim choose a genre... they really enjoy comedies and romances mainly... or if they saw a trailer on TV that interested them (which is usually a higher requested movie anyway). Pleasing the few hardly shows up on radar to the majority of our fans since the many have louder voices than the few. So yes, most popular requests usually are watched first (usually WINNING through POLLS) and if we only watched not well known movies all the time, we wouldn't be able to financially support our channel in the long run. That doesn't mean your request won't WIN or we won't select to watch it. All of you have helped guide us to where we are today and we really try our best to please everyone. I'm excited to see how our channel expands from here and what we will watch in the future! We have many here who are shy and not outspoken in comments, but do chat with me through messaging. Please be kind to each other and respect their requests too. Two movies a week is huge for us, but with hundreds of requests, it will take time to watch everything. We live in a world with high immediate demand and we are creating a lot of videos all the time to try and keep up. Sorry for my ramble and this message is soooo long, LOL... I want to keep going, but I need to start editing our next video :) If anyone has any concerns or suggestions, please feel free to PM me directly here. I apologize if I misunderstood any comments relating to this topic about racism and requests choices. We care about all our fans and want to keep our channel enjoyable for everyone. Love you guys and thanks for caring so much to be here!! :) Sorry for any typos! Thanks for reading! xoxo And to answer a previous question- Unstoppable WON a POLL, we didn't choose to watch it, but we really did enjoy it though! :) It was highly requested beforehand because of Speed (chain reaction again). We never heard of the movie until then and was excited that Denzel Washington was in it. He was amazing in Book of Eli too! We were pleasantly surprised Chris Pine was in Unstoppable right before we watched it because we liked him in Star Trek and Wonder Woman...

I also wanna add, I’ve watched a decent amount of their content the past 2 years and whenever there is a racial slur or scene in a film or tv show, they are VERY vocal about it.

Daryl

As a Native American here, I see nothing race related. This is a family who haven’t seen as much films as any of us. There’s a reason why there’s a movie poll each week. Just keep requesting and recommending your picks. Everyone has their own favourite films they’d like them to watch. Has nothing to do with what skin colour of an actor in the film. You’re pulling issues where there never wasn’t any.

Daryl

I think you’ve raised an interesting and genuine question. I think there are many elements to answer this. I am glad we are seeing a shift, however : )

Yes, Peter MacNicol who plays Janosz also plays Randolph, the Asgardian professor on Agents of Shield. By the way, it was John Belushi who was apart of the Blues Brothers and Dan Aykroyd's best friend. Jim Belushi is John's brother. He is also an actor.

I'm sure this doesn't answer your larger concern (in fact, it may only reinforce it) - but I'm fairly certain that "Unstoppable" was one of the movies that was reacted to right before the trolling situation came to a head. Meaning, it's possible it never legitimately won a poll. It may have been picked because one or two people had been making multiple accounts and "stuffing the ballot box" (so to speak) to ensure that whatever happened to be their personal whim at the time would be reacted to. Again, I know this info probably isn't satisfying your larger concerns. But in terms of why this one specific title was chosen, I believe there might've been an added wrinkle.

It's one of my favorite Denzel movies, as is a disaster/threat film similar in tone, Deja Vu. So hell no, from the perspective of a Denzel fan it's not nothing, combined with the interesting stuff I never knew I'd be curious about - how trains work/scheduling. It's also one of Tony's Scott's best films, action wise. Plus people liked Chris Pine due to Star Trek LOOOONG before Wonder Woman(myself, not so much). Personally though, I didn't vote for either Men in Black or Rush Hour because even though I find them a bit entertaining and will watch them when there's a reason to, I really don't think any of them make for very high quality films.

I should also add that representation enters into that to a degree. Like how BLM and The Washington Redskins (which in case you don't know came about as a racist pun by the owner to go along with the Boston Red Sox, whose stadium they shared at the time) are simultaneously a thing. There's a lot more African American representation in political circles and positions of influence than there is Native American representation. Also, Hispanic Heritage month did come and go without a single peep here. Then again, this is a movie/tv show reaction group and the people they attracted to this group are the people that were attracted to this group just because they happened to like Dawn, Kim and Mom's reactions to movies and shows. Politics doesn't and shouldn't enter into everything. If there's a lack of representation in case like this one, it's simply by happenstance and not by design. You yourself I think said were attracted to Dawn and company's channel because of Into The Spider-verse? I was drawn into it because of Guardian's Of The Galaxy - but I'm not actually a big Marvel fan, I just happened to really like this Marvel movie and group of characters. :P And from what I've seen of some of your requests, your case is similar to mine. We happen to be people that are mainly into other stuff, but also happened to like some stuff that the majority (white or black or otherwise) happened to like. It's not the majority's fault that we did, though, is what I'm trying to say but probably am not succeeding at lol.

Majority rules... Like in all things, that's what's happening here. If you're a person that's into art films or high grade drama and there's only like 5 people that share your preference in a group of 100 where 30 others may be up for both that and lighter fare and don't really have a hard preference, but the 65 left over have a hard preference that's on the complete opposite side of the spectrum to those artsy 5, guess what's going to win out? It's not really much to do with race, as it has to do with popular opinion vs unpopular opinion. The majority opinion is going to win out no matter what, reasoning need not apply. Although sometimes a lack of cultural understanding can contribute to that, like how everyone kept suggesting Coco as a good Halloween movie, just because of the skull make-up and death themes of Day of the Dead - kind of rather insensitively ignoring what Day Of The Dead actually means to that culture and that the skull make-up isn't meant to be dress up in service of spookiness, but it's done in representation of passed love ones. I have to admit that bugged me. Not that it was requested, but that it was requested as a Halloween movie.

Pretty telling no one even tried to answer the question...

Ugh yes always some issue about nothing

Daniel R

ive noticed that too.

Armchair Wizard

That's an understatement... Then again, it seems this person is more focused on being annoying on every single post on this Patreon then actually paying attention to everything else.

Guilherme Zanettini

you're such a bummer in every comment section. Every time i see you comment its some negative stuff.

Armchair Wizard

you're right and you should say it

alo bermudez

People here are just trying to enjoy movies they like. This ain't twitter.. Not everything gotta be racial or political smh.

I'm sure if you ask politely, they'll get rid of polls and only watch what meets your standards. To be honest, I care very little for the movies done here, but I also don't care enough to take a vocal issue with any of them.

db

9 Tom Hanks films in one poll seems more the funnier now, doesnt it lol

CiviliNation

Here is a question i never wanted to ask...i always wondered...of all the movies in the world, of all the films recommended to you, what would make yall pick a movie like "Unstoppable" . Was it because of Denzel Washington, one of the greatest actors that ever lived , or was it because of Chris Pine, who, until his breakout role in Wonder Woman, hardly anyone cared about ? I was so surprised to see that movie here because from the perspective of Denzel, that movie is nothing, its not even worth mentioning...but from Chris Pines perspective, well, thats one of his more decent films. So i guess my question is, is this page just proving the crap that hollywood has been telling us all these years? That, people wont watch "black films" so dont bother making or financing them ? That black actors, no matter how good, have to team up with some white actor or some international superstar (hi Jackie C) ?
