To answer your question about Star Trek 2-Wrath of Khan.. no, you do not need to see the first movie, Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Wrath of Khan and all the subsequent films(as well as all future continuity) completely ignore the events, tone, and look of that first film.

Fraser, the good news is, Dawn often surprises us by releasing the SECOND runner up as a surprise reaction. She has done that before more than once, especially for movies or shows that come close to winning multiple times. So I don't want to speak for Dawn for her, but i wouldn't be surprised if we saw Indiana Jones reaction before long.

I thought I’d request a couple Robert Zemeckis movies. They’re both a little less action-oriented titles. CAST AWAY (2000): The follow-up collab between Zemeckis and Tom Hanks. While Forrest Gump was great, I think it has the disadvantage of getting so much acclaim that it has an awful high bar to live up to. Cast Away is also excellent. And it being less well-known, it might be easier to appreciate. CONTACT (1997): This appeared on a couple past polls, so it probably has the best chance of a surprise reaction. Jodie Foster plays Dr. Ellie Arroway, an astronomer searching for anomalous radio frequencies from outer space. EX MACHINA (2014): Not a Zemeckis movie, but thought I’d keep asking for this until people finally want to strangle me. Indie sci-fi with a small cast. Of the three, this one might not be a good “Mom movie,” as watching some scenes could be awkward to the point of distraction. (Cast Away and Contact are fine for everyone, though.)

You don't need to have watched Star Trek 1 to enjoy The Wrath of Khan, but you should familiarise yourself with the background of Khan Noonien Singh from the 60's Star Trek series. Just reading his bio up to, and strictly no further than, his last appearance in the original Star Trek series.

I suspect you might be right, that there are a lot of repeats to try to make up for the recent polls being compromised. As an aside, I also suspect that a lot of the requests recently posted were actually from the trolls, or their duplicate dummy accounts. And they weren't sincere requests, but just random movie titles to make the duplicate accounts look more "realistic."

That is a good point, Star trek 2: the wrath of khan is an amazing movie, but they would probably get a lot more out of it if they watched just that one episode of the original series first so they understand the backstory and context

I voted for 'Kick Ass' because that's a great comic book comedy. But I guess 'Django Unchained' and the 'Indiana Jones' movies are the most interesting options. I got to say that 'Predator' is a must watch. If you're going to watch the 'Star Trek' movies I recommend you to see the old ones first starting with 'Wrath of Khan'

You can't objectively judge a movie as "forgettable" based on your own personal ideology. People in this community come from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures, and are as diverse as the kinds of movies they prefer to watch. For one person a movie like Pearl Harbor may not hold much water, but for others they derive a lot of meaning from it. And it's quite generous for the Akima crew to be so open accommodating to our suggestions. So if you want your requests to be heard, be more polite and considerate of other people's reasons for why they prefer the movies they prefer.

I would've Voted for "Troy", except it's not the Director's Cut, so it won't be as good. It may be too much [maybe Dawn & Kim could handle it]; if anyone has ever seen that Version, you know what I'm talking about. So, as a result, it was out of "Kick-Ass" & "District 9" - I chose the latter. Now, having said all this, I can't believe we are so adamant on "Django Unchained" & "Indiana Jones". Look, I like Quentin Tarantino and Steven Spielberg as much as the next person, but seriously, those Movies. Well, enjoy anyway, I guess.

You won't need to watch Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) for Wrath of Khan. Wrath of Khan, Search for Spock and Voyage Home is its own little trilogy. I do recommend you watch Wrath of Kkan before Into Darkness (2013), a lot of callbacks and references.

For 'Star Trek 2: the Wrath of Khan', you don't have to have seen Star Trek 1. However, if you haven't seen a specific episode of the Original Star Trek series('Space Seed') then you will not understand a large amount of it, nor will you know a lot of the characters, or understand the full weight of the events that take place.

Agreed... Other than the refitted ship, nothing from the first movie comes to play in the Wrath of Khan. Might be worth while watching the Original series Episode 'Space Seed' (S1.E22) E23 on Netflix because they have the included the original pilot.
