I’m more happy about the weekly release as it is easier for Jess. I was behind on the first season, and I still did the week-by-week thing to keep spoilers at bay and just have the shared experience. Damn thumbnails on youtube half gave shit away, so it is nice that we’re not having to worry much about that. I’m presently dealing with the whiplash of having the wealth of knowledge of It and now going to this where I’m in a similar boat as you and Jess of we’re sort of just going by the show. The complaints you say you’ve heard make me think of how if the HBO Potter series makes it to Goblet of Fire, whoever directs, please have John Lithgow loudly and hammily ask if Harry put his name in the Goblet of Fire and piss off all the fans again for the line not being asked calmly. Behind on The Leftovers as well, though I know I need to see it for Carrie Coon. Remember Jess did react to at least the last season, and I’ve heard her speak highly of it years ago. Likewise, not seen Justin Theroux as Liddy, though given how he was very good as the kind of guy that you can’t wait to see get some physical therapy, (figured you’d say that,) this works well. I have heard the name House. I held off on saying that for reasons of confusion that you noted, and I too am waiting for answers. The fans calling a different guy that name in the last season finale. We did have Max Von Sydow as the Three-Eyed Raven after a different actor in their first scene. Going back to Harry Potter, we ran with Ralph as Lord Voldemort despite him not being in Philosopher’s Stone. Or in Jedi, Ian as the Emperor after Marjorie Eaton with the voice of Clive Revill. So, there is the precedent of as you describe, recasting after the role became bigger. Whether that’s all this is or there’s more, I’ll play the waiting game. Yeah, I get what they’re doing with Lucy. I’m fine with it. It’s just very easy to put myself in the Ghoul’s shoes and be so driven up a wall with her. Walton and Ella’s dynamic is something to be such fun to revisit. Good note on the food thing, which, I’ve not seen Yellowjackets, but I am aware of that aspect of it. You do feel for Reg. Leslie is great in the energy she brought to the scene. The Targaryens would see no problem with the in-breeding. What fortuitous circumstance to be able to use that Darling line here, that’s perfect. Knew we would both feel Davey’s difficulty not having a dot and bubble. Shared concern with the knife and the orange. Mom cut her hand somewhat bad one time when trying to slice open an avocado a few years back, so that’s somewhat on the brain. Still not seen Battleground, and I was at Christmas movie trivia night last night, no questions for it there. The two for Die Hard were fairly good questions. Norm’s predicament, I wasn’t worried about thinking about how he’d get out of it, leaving it to the writers that they had a good plan for that. We’re all rooting for him. Michael Esper is hitting the good snooty villain of a Robin Williams vibe as you put it, which hearing that, my mind, for some reason went straight to Patch Adams. I recall you had that issue with Moldaver. The feeling is mutual, especially the whole thing of setting Lucy up to be the victim of rape by deception. Here’s hoping they dive into her her being just as bad as Hank.

There's a certain Christmas movie that will get some representation in the next TNG episode, so I'm already coming up with as many lines from that as I can.
I had to think a bit about exactly what movie they had these people watching on a constant loop. My best guess is Soderbergh's Che; more people than saw it in the theater at least.
I have to applaud the restraint in not having Kyle actually say anything about the damn fine coffee. The image is there, the right people get it, now we can move on. Certainly refreshing after sending Halloran off to a hotel.

Well done to Amazon for giving this season a weekly release, so we don't need to worry too much about spoilers here. I've done zero research on the games in the meantime because I want to just keep this a pure experience, beyond some complaints that something in the first ten minutes here messes with the continuity, which I can't go into specifics on because of how my eyes glaze over every time I see those words. My response as always is: Good thing I don't care.
I've never seen The Leftovers, so my main image of Justin Theroux is as G. Gordon Liddy. Which certainly plays nicely into his continuing to be the kind of guy you can't wait to see get some physical therapy. Though something very strange is going on with this casting, since he's credited as Robert House, after all the fans were calling a different guy that name in the last season finale, and usually I'd chalk that up to recasting after the role became bigger, except there's the other guy identified by the name on the TV who looks a lot like him but still clearly isn't Theroux. For now I'm just putting my trust that some answer is coming and just enjoying more of him playing the kind of guy who wants to be brighter than the stars in the heavens above, going supernova all the eyes look up.
For a bit, I was worried that Lucy had gone backwards in her development, but that eventually gets cleared up with her basically saying "I'm Batman, not because I have to be, but now because I choose to be." Ella and Walton together were the best thing about Season 1, and this one seemingly being all about that is very promising. Especially with the added complication that only one of them needs to eat, even if that means the occasional rat au van. And we know from Yellowjackets she's pretty delicious herself, so that's something to watch out for.
Never thought I'd be anywhere near this invested in Reg, but I've definitely been there sometimes where a big life change means you suddenly have absolutely no idea what to do with your time. Leslie is hilarious with her barely contained frustration and I'm hoping for a lot more of this kind of thing. It makes perfect sense that some Vault people would have gone full Targaryen, and I'm very curious where we could go in his efforts to keep the place somewhere where you can say "The only men who weren't her lovers were the ones with reason to believe they might be her father." (after being so shocked and delighted at what a savage movie Darling is, I had to get that one in at the very first opportunity) Also feeling Davey's difficulty not having a dot and bubble, like I discussed back then. And great to see they're not backing off at all from Stephanie's mental problems as hinted last season, where I really cringed at her knife handling technique. Brings up bad memories of the woman almost cutting her breasts off in Battleground, not exactly something you expect in a movie from the '40s.
Even with more than a year to think on it, I hadn't gotten any clear idea of how Norm could get out of his predicament, so I got the full experience of just hoping he'd come up with something, and rooting for him once he did. Michael Esper continues to perfectly nail the tone between funny and threatening, and his turning into the snooty villain of a Robin Williams movie who runs around shouting "I say, this is most unorthodox" already has me begging for more.
An odd relief to see Moldaver's still here in flashback, which means the show will probably actually address how she was still around, and there's an outside chance her being just as bad as Hank will be acknowledged after that was by far my biggest issue with last season. This was a blast from beginning to end, and I'm so glad this time we get to share it together.

Okey-Dokey, we’re back at it. Knowing what you’ve said about the busy holiday season, I anticipated offering you patience with the uploads. No worries, Jess. We are getting a disturbing trend of crowded television during the holiday season. You say that maybe we all love it. I don’t. I’m Patrick Stewart Scrooge meets Boris Karloff Grinch anymore. Alas, I have no “Carolers will be criticized” sign to hang on my door. I’m not fond of all the shows dropping so as to entice the holiday viewing gatherings. Shit, if I’m lucky, I barely even have time to watch any of my favorite Christmas movies anymore. (Which are still barely represented, if at all, at the Christmas movie trivia.) Who the fuck even wants to watch this show with the family on Christmas anyway? I have plans on Christmas Eve, so you say that you’re not filming episode two’s reaction until Christmas Day, that works out nicely. No worries if it’s delayed any. Fair about a week’s delay with the third episode. Now to the season premiere. Shared avoidance of trailers. Talking about any knowledge: Well, I’ve seen one or two images. Heard some casting news, most of which I can’t talk about yet. One I can mention is that I had heard something about Justin Theroux being cast in this as the gamers got loud about the character he’s playing for... reasons somewhat unknown. I’m sorry to disappoint you, Jess, by saying that the present desire when I see Justin is to punch him in the face, for reasons that will be clear if the film reaction polls go a certain way. This is said with acknowledgement of your love for The Leftovers; it’s cool. No Maximus in this episode. Oh, no. Anyway. Interesting updates with the vault back home. If I’m being honest, I feel Davey’s pain with everything going from being on the right to being on the left. Such a switch deals a bit of a number on the brain, so that one speaks to me a little. We both would find it to be nice if Chet finds that backbone. But Chet should rest well, however, as Stephanie is now marked for death as is established with the portent of the orange. Hey, these ain’t my rules. Matter of fact, they weren’t even Coppola’s rules until someone pointed it out to him. (If this does turn out to be a spoiler, I apologize. Merely jesting about that at the present time. The imagery was impossible to resist.) Leading to your Norm reactions, and the delight you have is great to see. I could hear the voice in my head saying, “Hard to believe it’s been over a year since you last saw Jess react to Norm.” and I respond, “That’s true. Funny how you miss the little things.” You obviously aren’t vibing with Bud the bitch ass brain on the Roomba. Refresh my memory, what’s stopping Norm from just breaking the jar, and then squishing said bitch ass brain? Love how you called Norm tapping into the irrational energy, and he broke the needle, good man. You and me both having the strong aversion to needles, as you know. Norm and the dog are top priorities for you. The Ghoul for me, and we both delight in having more of his flashback story. Hopefully this comes with more deep diving and acknowledging how Moldaver lived long enough to see herself become the the very thing she swore to destroy, not that from the sound of it she was a saint even back then. You raise the good observation of the parallel of The Ghoul then compared to now, and his dynamic with Lucy, more on that in a second. Shame that the Ghoul’s efforts of trying to get himself, his little girl, and his dog away from the house were thwarted. Goddamn it, Barb knows, doesn’t she? We both encourage the Ghoul with the drinking. Great action sequence with him to welcome us back. Sidenote when it comes to the youtube edits: the lowered volume with the music, good call. Knew you were going to catch the Betty that looks similar to the one that Paul Reubens and Diane Salinger were famously in. Feel like an asshole still how you root for Lucy trying to hold onto her morals, and I get that the narrative wants you to be supportive of her there, and yet, the girl is still testing me. Me and the Ghoul were on the same page in the one scene as I was yelling, “WOULD YOU SHOOT THE FUCKING ROPE ALREADY!?” She stresses that she’s not apologizing for not murdering people. You edify Lucy that if raiders threaten to eat your dog, then killing them is no longer murder, it’s justifiable homicide. I’m a cat person, and I fully support this logic. Knew you would have a look when the raider mentioned eating the dog by the way. The Ghoul is unamused, and he impresses upon Lucy that whoever double-crosses the Ghoul and leaves him alive... they understand nothing about the Ghoul. Nothing. She does raise the interesting point of how she’s accused of being the optimistic one compared to the Ghoul given his goal. I’d argue that it’s not optimism. It’s the need for closure at the very worst. Hell of a brainwashing vault they stumble on. Take a wild stab and say that this vault had the yearly goal of through the mind experiments: they’d create precisely fifty-seven card carrying members of the Communist party for each fiscal quarter. Interesting strategy of using Chekov’s mind control... thing. Makes the heads go Scanners. Does seem more and more likely that there’s more Frank than Hank about Kyle in this show, yes. Speaking of whom, Hank is getting down to business at the place he arrived at. Couldn’t pass up that bit that Kyle had with the coffee, could we? You say that his suit is not a Cooper style suit and that you would not have been able to handle that one. Good to know. You know me and villains, and you know, Jess, how I love you for how you really do take the time to dive into the villainy of it all. Combine this with Kyle being great, we have a good time to come with Hank, I presume. If you say so about psychotics needing a yo-yo. First I’ve heard that one. Just good to be back sharing this show with you. Thanks for the fun reaction, Jess.

I'm a huge fan of the games (especially New Vegas) so I can't wait to see how they integrate that into this new story they're telling.
