Think our heroes are fucked if there’s Captain Howdy shit going on. Unless there’s more context to the reference that I’m not privy to. The question you raise of Karen and Ted, they could still get killed, though I take your point. I haven’t dived too deeply into the recent news that’s come out about Millie and David, so I’m unable to speak intelligently about the matter. Was worried that it’d undermine shit for fans of the show, though you’re saying that it’s going all right. I notice that Jess hasn’t brought it up, so it seems that she’s not letting it bother much of anything. I have seen images of Max bleeding from the eyes, and I did hear differing reports of her being dead or not. My one remark seeing the images was to borrow from Peter Falk and say, “If she’s alive, she’s putting on a hell of an act, ain’t she?” I do have a few shows where my favorite character is not introduced in the first season. Charles from M*A*S*H being top of that list. Praise indeed to hold Sadie in the same regard as the others you mention. Can’t really speak to the point of Steve and Jonathan, though the way Jess describes it, it fits her reacting style very well, so there is that. You say it’s making you impatient for them to do a Bowfinger, fair. Don’t know who Sullivan is, though you say the name Dr. Kay, so that’s Linda, I presume, check. Given what a thick slice of bullshit that Fast and Furious reveal was, I would certainly fucking hope not about such a thing being done here. If they write it well, maybe it’d work, though it doesn’t sound good. I did recently catch a headline mentioning about the Wrinkle of Time of it all. Interesting synergy with Derry. That pissed me off so much how they weren’t saying, “Beep-beep, Richie!” in the newer It, so that when Pennywise finally did, there was no context. My brother and sister in-law got the laugh in the theater when Bev said it the one time in the second one, and I snapped, “NOW they’re saying it! What the fuck!?” Christ, that scene of Adrian Brody typing out Skull Island, that brings back memories of laughing at how stupid that scene was. About as stupid as the academy voting to give him an Oscar because Ralph already won one, and he hadn’t. (Yes, I’m still on that because it is such MASSIVE bullshit.) Good that the dramatics with Mr. Whatsit sounds like it’s done, so that’s good. Sounds like you’re enjoying the season, and that’s good to hear. Like I said, just hoping Jess and you guys are good with this last season. Sounds like it’s going better than the last two seasons of Game of Thrones where the main problem there was more the speed and pacing as I was more or less fine with most everything that happened. How it was presented needed work. My forever biggest complaint doesn’t seem popular, so that’s an interesting bit of loneliness. Here’s hoping the end of this show is satisfactory.

After a decade of waiting for the rest of the Wheelers to get clued in to the Upside Down, it didn't disappoint, much as you might wish it didn't have to come in the form of Karen and Ted both getting put out of commission while Holly talks to Captain Howdy. Both performed much better against the Demogorgon than I'm sure anyone was expecting, and hopefully they get a bit more to do (my concern for them dying pretty much evaporated when they got to the hospital, because why wouldn't the show just kill them on the spot if that's where this is going?).
Great as it is to see El and Hopper teaming up again (and I especially got a kick out of her refusal to explain what's going on beyond "Karen hurt it with her wine,") all these scenes do carry the inevitable discomfort that there's always a representative for Millie standing off camera, per her demand for coming back this season after accusing David Harbour of bullying her. Luckily, that doesn't seem to have affected their chemistry at all so it's still pretty easy to get wrapped up and take your mind off it. Though they might want to be careful with that wall; it might be all that's keeping the White Walkers out.
It's pretty open knowledge now that Max was originally going to die in Season 4, but then the Duffers realized Sadie had become such an important part of the show that she needed to be there for the end. She definitely is up there among the top actors to join a show in its second season and immediately feel like an essential piece of the puzzle, along with the likes of Danny DeVito in It's Always Sunny and Kevin Dunn in Veep. Though at this point I did start getting impatient for her to wake up, since we all know there's no way they'd bring her back just to be in a coma the whole time. Also very impressive how much Running Up That Hill feels like an iconic part of the show now after coming in just last season. Definitely brings me the Goosies like Will.
I already was just about done with Steve and Jonathan last episode, and adding Dustin to the mix just to add to the arguing isn't helping at all. We know it's not going to last and they're going to be friends again sometime, can't we just do a Bowfinger and have them all say "So what?" "Well, I never thought about it like that."? And thank god Steve immediately sees through Dustin's attempt to hide who beat him up, which I don't know why he was even doing it in the first place.
Great to see Sullivan again after I was very worried he was just going to go away with no comeuppance after last season. Though together with Dr. Kay's role, this does get me thinking the show might pull a Fast and Furious and reveal he was actually a good person all along and was only acting this way because the real villain was forcing him to, and much as I know Linda Hamilton could pull that off, it wouldn't fit at all so please don't do it.
Very glad I read the entire Wrinkle of Time series as a kid so I can follow everything the show might do with it. And I don't know how aware the crew was that this season would be releasing at the same time as Welcome to Derry, but it's certainly a great piece of sync that a big part of the season is another book whose main villain is named IT. Maybe we should start saying "Beep beep, Richie" whenever Mike shows up. The ending felt pretty off to me as Mr. Whatsit was so obviously Vecna that it's weird they even tried to play it as a twist, complete with the most pointlessly melodramatic writing since Adrian Brody typed out Skull Island. But we're past it now, relatively early in the season, so it's time for Holly the Heroic to just show what she can really do.

The Running Up That Hill scene is easily the high point of the entire show, everything great about it summed up in those five minutes, and one of those times you instantly know you're seeing something that will become a touchstone of pop culture that will be referenced for generations to come.

Well, they must have had an effective premiere if you go into this all anxious and everything. What you describe about Mr. Whatsit sounds like they had a buildup to Vecna. You asked if your concern was unwarranted, and had you gone mental? Ausgespielt? Bughouse? Teched? Milky in the filbert? Turns out, no, as you said, though I get the concern. From what the memes tell me, you need Kate Bush to combat Vecna, so having a vivid imagination when considering how he’s involved in shit doesn’t sound like the least understandable thing in the world. Plus, my favorite character is the Emperor who was always like thirty-seven steps ahead of everyone else, so I get it. Shame it does little to assuage your concern for Holly. I don’t doubt that when the parents were told about Holly going missing that it broke your heart. I don’t even know who Holly is, but I know you, how you invest in the characters, and I can easily see that you would have the reaction that you described. Dustin, Steve, and the tense vehicle sounds like it’d make a pretty good hair metal band. Make for a hot time in the old town tonight. Knowing you, that would have your attention of Dustin having all those negative emotions, and how he’s banking them. He’s hiding them. He’s keeping them alive until he knows what to do with them. Hope that storyline continues to be great for you. You talk about how wonderful Lucas is. ...That’s easy for you to say. That’s a mild joke as I don’t know who Lucas or this Max is. Then you said Sadie, the gear clicked, making me ask, “Oh, so Max, is that the Kate Bush girl?” You mention about not wasting her talents. I’ve seen The Whale, so yeah, you win that argument. Perchance should we take a shot for everyone breaking your heart in this last season. I get exactly what you mean with the dread of just losing everyone. Honestly, though given when it was made, that wasn’t ever really going to happen with my favorite show, though there was some precedent, and given how the finale was, it did reach a point where you wouldn’t have put it past the show to go through with that. Also, without spoiling how it unfolded, the buildup to the release of The Rise of Skywalker, the dread you describe was there, and honestly, tenfold; I was deathly afraid of them killing everybody in that. Few characters, which I still cannot fully talk about yet, had the greatest dread, and it got WORSE actually watching the film; my mind went to some dark shit with that. So, I know what you describe, and it stands out how you say that you don’t want everyone to be on bad terms if that is to come. Breaks my heart a bit. Good to see you had the positive response to these first two episodes. Hope you enjoy what’s to come, Jess, even if it is devastatingly sad.
