Classic Who "Ghost Light" Part 3 Full Reaction!

Classic Who "Ghost Light" Part 3 Full Reaction!

Yeah, I don’t think we got the vision of clarity in parts one and two with this one. You spend the whole time watching with little grasp as to what’s going on. It’s like being part of the cast of a Fellini film. Thankfully, as you saw, part three brought some clarity to the game. Get what you mean about reactions are the first time you see something. It’s where I was worried about fan response when you reacted to 2001, as that is a film that takes a few viewings. Then again, you got it rather well. Similar principle here, though again, part three clears a few things up. The whole thing did have a good spooky vibe. Control’s goals were certainly most appreciated by you. Light is indeed an asshole. Tim Curry knew it, hence why he tried to have all the unicorns murdered. Love how you called out the reticence to evolution and change. How if one is going to explore the Earth so that you could update the Guide entry to saying “Mostly harmless”, you would think that there would be greater desire to explore. Ace has the good showing through all this story. Love her scenes where she informs the Doctor about what happened. We both observe that it’ good that Ace got some closure. Though she still has to look forward to how future events such as these will affect her... in the future. ...Which is her past. Time travel, it fries your brain like an egg. Seven is awesome as always. Got caught off guard by how emotional I got when you compared the themes of evolution and change to Doctor Who altogether. My brain is such that it abhors change, yet, as you note, change is life. Not very happy about that. The themes as explored here were well done. Loved all your words on that topic, Jess. And thanks for the lovely reaction.

They were posted last week :)

Excited for this! But I can't find your reactions to Parts 1 and 2... are they still to come or am I missing something?

"I wouldn't want to confuse you.", The Doctor, "Ghost Light" There's a good reason that there are web pages titled things like "What is Ghost Light actually about?". Marc Platt, the writer, in one of the documentaries or the commentary track, said he didn't understand why people think his story was hard to understand when they're watching it for the first time. Well, Marc, you have to take some of the blame for that. Incidentally, Marc was only the second writer to have a Who script accepted with no previous professional writing experience. Who was the other? Well, it was "Full Circle"'s writer Andrew Smith. But let me state that I do understand that one. "Control wants her freeness. Be a lady-like. Doctor promised.", Control, "Ghost Light" I don't think it is made clear in the screenplay - (is it detailed in the novelization?), but "Control" is named because she is the "control" side of a scientific experiment. "Don't have the soup.", The Doctor to Ace, "Ghost Light" I'm reminded, a bit, of the dinner scene in "Rocky Horror". "Who was it said Earthmen never invite their ancestors round to dinner?", The Doctor, "Ghost Light" That would be Douglas Adams in his "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". "All organic life is recorded.", "What about the gryphons, the basilisks? You missed the dragons, the bandersnatches. Then there are the slithy toves and the crowned Saxe-Coburg.", Light and the Doctor, "Ghost Light" This list of fake missing items reminds me of a scene in Blackadder the Third: "Ink and Incapability". And "bandersnatch", "slithy toves"? - the Doctor knows his Lewis Carroll. Of course we knew that - the 3rd Doctor sang "Jabberwocky" to himself in "Doctor Who and the Silurians". "'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves, did gyre and gimble in the wabe.", The Doctor, "Doctor Who and the Silurians". "Argh! Everything is changing. All in flux. Nothing remains the same.", Light, "Ghost Light" Who was it said "life finds a way"? [wink] "Redvers has the whole universe to explore for his catalogue. New horizons, wondrous beasts, light years from Zanzibar.", Redvers Fenn-Cooper, "Ghost Light" So they head off in the alien ship. Does anyone else feel a bit let down when the whole building doesn't take off like the "Rocky Horror" one did? [I know Ace needs to burn it down later, but I'm still disappointed] Again, Mark Ayres' soundtrack is very, very familiar to me - I have the CD.
