Share the big disappointment about Alien: Earth. I was behind on the post that Jess made; only caught it late last night. You say that you have no idea how this ended up as it has. The implication being that for other reactors, the numbers were more favorable? Regardless, yeah, this is one you would have expected more views for Jess. If this is some issue with Hawley, it makes me worry that Fargo would suffer the same if Jess wanted to take a crack at reacting to that. I take some comfort that we got to the flashback episode, as her reaction to that one was really terrific. Really there never is a bad time to quote Addison, or anything from that film, though I hear you on how the one episode provides such a terrific spot to use that one beauty of a quote. Going back to Fargo, I had some lines from Lorraine that I was prepared to use in response to a certain development at the end of the episode. There is the big relief that All About Eve and Sunset Boulevard were in the separate screenplay categories, so that they both won. Peter, Michelle, Glenn Close, John Malkovich, Uma Thurman, yes, amazing cast. The film is in my top ten of the year. ...Of course, I’m that fucked in the head. Of the nominees in that screenplay category for that year, that is perhaps the strongest. Would have to give some thought on personal pick for that year. Howard’s End is really damn good. That’s a tricky year with the very strong competition, which doesn’t even include A Few Good Men. Again, would have to give that one some serious thought.

End of the widow arc, huh? Good, widow’s weeds are not a good look for Dean. Still love how part of Castiel annoying the cosmic being was being smart with calling said cosmic being’s bluff at a few spots. Getting Castiel back and getting the Tombstone trip does wonders for his spirit. Absent any experience with romance and dating though I am, yeah, making someone watch your favorite movies is a very relatable love language that is rather sweet here. Don’t even bat an eye that Dean loves Tombstone. As I say, of westerns of the nineties, I favor Unforgiven and The Quick and the Dead myself, though Tombstone is very good. Still amazed that Dean did not say, “You’re no daisy. You’re no daisy at all.” to the ghoul after the sarge blew his head off. Me, I’d go with either Eli Wallach with his famous line, “When you have to shoot, shoot, don’t talk.” or I’d channel Gene Hackman in The Quick and the Dead, saying, “Dave Mather is dead! ...Old news.” Good note on the Castiel and Jack interactions. The show does like to juggle the mood. This one taking the sharp turn is done quite well. This coming after everyone started to get more spring in their step. Shared appreciation for Dean’s speech. Good note on Castiel’s concern. Yeah, Sam does get you pretty good. He’s the one who took Jack under his wing, put in the work, and yeah, one could argue that Sam adopted Jack, much in the way that Bobby adopted the boys. It does hurt Sam seeing Jack be so down. You note that Jack leaving to have some space being a very Sam thing to do. In addition to as you say, Sam’s now on the other side of that, it’s also that very realistic thing. You know the pain and hurt that your actions, mistakes, sins, can cause, and you don’t wish to see someone else take the same course of action, because you know where it leads. I don’t, because I’ve not seen past this episode yet, though we’ll see how it goes here.

This is such a wild episode. First of all, we have finally reached the end of the Widow Arc! Yay! Only Cas could annoy an ancient cosmic being so much that it sent him back from The Empty lol. And the infectious happiness just getting Cas back gives to Dean, is amazing. Watching Dean this episode, you would never guess how he was at the beginning of this season. And I absolutely love that we got to see Dean this happy. To see his excitement for something that he is passionate about, and to learn that he makes Cas watch his favorite movies with him, its just adorable, and very, very sweet. I also love the Cas and Jack interactions, they are so similar, and the connection between them already is well on its way to mirroring Sam and Dean. Supernatural has such an incredible talent for mixing humor and heartbreaking, and writing episodes like this, that seem to start off light hearted and fun, and cheerful, before going completely off the rails. It is frustrating in an incredibly entertaining way. I do like how you can feel the tone of the season shift in this episode, with Cas' return. You can see the weight lift off of Dean, and even Cas seems more relaxed and calm than before his trip to the Empty. And then... everything happens with Jack, and while I love Dean's speech to him, admitting he was wrong, and you can see the worry for Jack in Cas' expression... Sam's face is the one that always gets me, and breaks my heat. Dean has been grieving, and Cas wasn't hear, so Sam is the one who took Jack under his wing, raised him, essentially, protected him and taught him and tried to help him, relate to him. Jack is Sam's kid, at this point, as far as I am concerned. As much as Kelly and Jack chose Cas, Sam is the one who has been doing all the work at this point. And for him to see Jack so upset, so hurt, you can see the pain on Sam's face. Especially when Jack says he needs to go. Which, to me, is also really fascinating, because it is a very Sam thing to do- leave, and get some space, be on his own, when he is hurting or upset. You can see how hard that is for Sam to be on the other side of, and how much he doesn't want Jack to go, but you can also tell that Sam gets it, even if he doesn't like it. And as much as this episode was the win that Dean, and even Cas, needed, it is a blow, and a loss to Sam, and I feel like the scales have started to tip, slightly. Very well done, over all.

Big disappointment about Alien: Earth. I honestly have no idea what happened there; it's a popular show that it seems your typical fans would be into. And we were just about to get to the episode that let me use a certain line I'd been eager for ever since it first aired: "Is it possible, even conceivable, that you've confused me with that gang of backwards children you play tricks on?" Anyone who's seen the episode won't have much trouble figuring out where it goes. I also have to point out that in going through the Best Adapted Screenplay winners I just finished Dangerous Liaisons, and I couldn't stop thinking about what a shame it is that a movie with Michelle Pfeiffer AND Peter Capaldi has a story so totally opposite of anything you'd want to watch, even if the bad guys do get theirs in the end. And I just started Howard's End, where it was an unexpected delight to see a young Kate Stewart.
