Beginning with the expression of hope that you would get through the episode with minimal tears, my thought was that the odds were about even with this one. Ultimate verdict was that for the most part it was minimal tears. Little bit at the end. We start by catching up with the Hell of it all. The demon saying about how Lucy will make Hell great again, makes me snap, “They need to STOP SAYING that.” And we now meet Asmodeus who makes a decent enough entrance. Cracks me up how we both commented on the all white ensemble that Asmodeus was sporting. You call it risky, I was just yelling, “Don’t you know you’re not supposed to wear white after Labor Day?” Likewise, Lucy and Mary are having the time. Knew you’d react to the one hunter who got too forward. Adds a new wrinkle when Michael shows up. Mary should have booked or taken a load off whilst grabbing a cold one while that fight happened. Sam and Dean have their hands full with Jack. Gets bad when Sam makes Dean stop for the night, even though he did offer to drive, and Dean had the response of, “Do I EVER want you to drive?” which Sam just takes that as a “no”. The option is at least there. If it’s me and my brother, I can’t drive. Like it also when Sam chides Dean with the hypocrisy of being the human garbage can, and Dean never really refutes that. Cute moment with Scooby-Doo, and Jack being given the Bible. Look at it this way, the Bible didn’t burn Jack, so that’s something. Likewise, sweet of Sam taking one for the team by saying he’ll take the couch. How the fuck would he even fit on that? We both caught Keith’s name in the credits, thus spoiling the surprise of Donatello arriving. Was not aware of him being part of the Buffyverse, but all right. Could see him fitting into that world well. I know Keith from other stuff, and he’s always a solid character actor. Notice that with actors that you only know for this show that it takes you some time to place their names, such as it did take you a bit with Curtis, and it became fantastic when you knew the name and would dread Metatron appearing. I have something similar as last season I never did quite catch Ketch’s actor’s name for a while. We both kind of loved the rather wholesome thing of Donatello relying on Mister Rogers to navigate moral conundrums. Shared love for Sympathy Sam, as you put it. That scene is a big highlight of the episode, and your words on it were great. Nice that Dean took some time for a snort, albeit things were nefarious there. Honestly, fair on the small tangent of how it’s always something and you can never just go to a bar and have a good talk with a kind and supportive stranger, sans nefarious activities. Or just go to bars where you’re more well known and talk with the bartenders that you’ve gotten to know well. And clearly Asmodeus has no taste with booze as he didn’t make a face when having Dean’s scotch, which I guarantee was rotgut. Boys still got it with fighting the demons. Dean did have the good blade throw that went right through the demon’s neck, you ask Dean, “Feel better?” after that one. Love how they stop Jack from going too far, and it gets me, you saying “Oh.” the way you did when Jack said my friends in regard to the boys and Donatello. Sucks that the boys still aren’t on the same page, though they are at least being open about their stances. And although it’s not the best thing for Jack to hear, it is good that Dean kind of puts the cards on the table on what’s what. Like you say, Jack could be taught to do good, yet there is reasonable fear about what he can do. He’s got the boys to help him. Shame Bobby’s dead. Charlie and Eileen too as I think they’d have been a good influence for Jack. They do need to get Jody in the mix. And you comment that if Dean includes Jack into the list of people that he needs to protect, that Jack will be well protected. If this does indeed happen, that’s not an admission, (mainly because I don’t know one way or the other,) Heaven help anyone who tries to hurt Jack. One thing that is interesting is that I think Dean’s already starting the path on that as for someone who has been pretty quick to bang the drum of “Kill the Jack!”, he jumped to pretty goddamn fast in stopping Jack from stabbing himself. Food for thought. Thanks for the fun reaction, Jess.
