So, I see that we spent the same amount of time in between when we saw the last two episodes of season twelve and the season thirteen premiere. Most amusing that you didn’t talk about Rowena before starting the episode as it is without question she’ll be back. Start by talking about the Jack business. As per your custom, you see both the boys’ perspectives. Though Dean is a touch emotionally compromised following the end of last season, he’s not wrong to be wary about Jack. Sam, by contrast, though not fully disputing that, is more along the side of where you and I are coming from in that Jack seems scared more than anything, and there is question about how aware is he of his supposedly true nature. Certainly, the angels are dealing far more in the absolute by just trying to kill Jack. Love how you clocked the one angel being more than just some drunk gal. They caused quite the stir at the police station, good on the sheriff for holding her own, and believing Dean when he was a straight shooter. We shared the reaction to Sam doing the work with the trap. Whole thing demonstrated that an angel blade is useless against him. You can tell that Dean is taking that into consideration with taking Jack back to the bunker. Better the devil’s kid be in an environment where you have home field advantage. You know he’s going to look into procuring the daggers of Megiddo. Gets you good when Jack names Castiel his father. Sure Lucy won’t take kindly to that, though he’s tormenting Mary, and his last scene, we both anticipated something like that. Appreciate that you do offer the precautionary words of respectful mourning if some of the characters are dead. Dean’s operating under the belief that they’re all dead after God did not respond to his prayer to bring them back. Even Crowley, Christ, you broke my heart, Jess, with the reaction to that one. Half called the smashing of the pirate sign when Dean was evasive about his bloody knuckles. My question was, “You demolish the pirate or something?” I said that and I was referring to the pirate at the drive thru. Turns out it was the sign, so I was half-right. Quite the solemn scene of burning Castiel. There is the conspicuous thing of Misha being listed in the main cast, and when you clocked it, I said, “So, you caught that.” Not seen past this episode as of today, but the fact that he’s in the main cast all but guarantees that a future episode will have a “Somehow, Castiel returned.” type deal. It is an interesting quandary of you don’t want those of us who know what’s to come to leave leading or winking comments. Sometimes those of us who don’t know can do it accidentally. Castiel did look dead if nothing else. Misha being in the main cast list, plus this show’s reputation does make you wary though, so we’ll see what happens. You also noted about Crowley’s death, and the cautious skepticism about that. Appreciated that. You say that you would like very much to see Crowley again on this show, yeah, well, that makes two of us. Meantime, this was a great reaction to a solid season premiere, Jess, thank you.
