AHTYA 2.0 – pt. 13: Understanding For Loops in Houdini

We’re back with a new section of our AHTYA beginner series. This time we’re talking about a somewhat odd but sometimes necessary part of Houdini: For Loops! When do you need them? How do you use them? And why do you find such mixed feelings about them online? We’ll answer all those questions in this video!

Hi Chris, It was my mistake. I started the second chapter and could see where you were going. I thought you were starting on those in the first one. I apologize, and thank you for the great course.

Ep 15-18 are already recorded, however they'll have a slightly different style anyway. Let me know what you guys prefer from Ep 19 onwards.

Hey Bruno, thanks for the feedback! The idea behind this video structure was to have a quick explainer of a concept up front and the actual practice of those concepts with a project after that (for example: First understanding For Loops, then the torus project) I can definitely build those explainer setups from a blank scene, like in the project videos. However that would make those videos a lot longer - this one would probably be upwards of 30 minutes. I'm still a bit torn if this is the right way or if these videos should stay as short as possible (also as a future reference if someone wants a quick refresher on a topic without watching a needlessly long video)

Thank you, Chris. I think the approach on the tutorial, without a follow-up aim, is a bit trickier to follow. It means that we need to download an already made scene, then a clean Houdini scene to learn while we follow the video (missing the parameters of each node). I kindly propose to return to the vellum torus flowers dynamic. Maybe it is personal, but I feel it was easier to retain the concepts by following you starting from 0. Thank you
