Natalie9000 was a bit preoccupied with the reference that I had to google whilst Riri has to ponder that if she’s nothing without the suit than maybe she shouldn’t have it. The urge for White Castle is there most days, though it being featured here did make the urge stronger. Some very fond memories connected to that place. They have a location, I think not even ten minutes from my house. And the whole fight is done very well. The raptor part crossed my mind as well. You crossed my mind again with the Ezekiel scenes, where I could imagine you sounding like Loki in Ragnarök, saying to the showrunners, “You had ONE job. JUST the one.” The mother and daughter scene did hit the strong note. Nice Who reference. I also had the reticence to buy that Dormamu was the villain in the shadows. And good observation of if he hadn’t debuted already, you’d be more inclined to consider the idea. You say that you have one idea. See how that plays out. Fair on being out of fucks about the crew, the stuff about the Hood falling down for you, likewise, fair. Again, like Muse, the character is new to me. Not sure about his dad in the comics, though I suspect that he doesn’t work for Marcellus Wallace in the comics. More than fair comment on the Chibnall writing for the dad not receiving any real punishment. I was more surprised by Natalie9000’s death happening here with one episode left than anything. Lyric did put in some good work. As I mentioned in the last reaction, liked the show overall. Has its problems sure, and I would hope that a follow-up season helps with some of those problems. Good to see you’re optimistic about it. By the way, I got Sinners in the mail today. Took until yesterday for Amazon to finally update its projected shipping date from late December to yesterday. Hoping I have time to see it sooner rather than later. Or perhaps, I could save it for when Jess is on break. Until then, you have the finale of this show to look forward to. And as you say, you are still interested to see how this wraps up, and I too would call that a win.

I went back to the first Iron Man film recently, and was surprised I'd never noticed before that Stane is apparently just wordlessly roaring like an animal through the whole fight. I got a bit giggly imagining Jeff Bridges' face during that.
There was reportedly a lot more characterization to Malekith, which is why Eccleston signed on in the first place, and he was furious when it all got cut. The MCU really did have a big problem with that for quite a while that I was willing to overlook because the whole idea was still exciting enough.

Really starting with a bang this time, as Natalie is busy watching The Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon so Riri inevitably has to go through the same growing experience as Tony did: can you be a hero without the suit? And they pick quite a fun location for the fight too, though whenever a scene like this happens, I want to say to the crew, you do realize we can tell what you're doing, right? There isn't a single person watching this who's suddenly just feeling an irresistible urge for White Castle that they can't explain. But it's hard to care much about that when the fight is so well done, incorporating so much stuff we've seen Riri learn and create, even if there's one part where I couldn't help thinking "Just get the raptor to charge at your reflection."
Riri breaking down for her mother has been a long time coming, and they both work it with all they've got. As a marvelous parent once said, "It's my job for it to be my fault." And it helps that this all comes with a perfect fusion of the magic stuff with Riri's approach. Although there's no way I buy this is Dormamu behind everything. Maybe if he hadn't yet appeared in the MCU it could work, but at this point it would just be sort of weird if he crammed his way in here after being Dr. Strange's intro villain. I do have one solid idea who it could be, but I'll stay quiet on that now in case it turns out to be a spoiler.
All the stuff with Parker is where the episode kind of falls down for me. First off, I'm fresh out of any fucks to give about these people feeling betrayed by him after they all went after Riri so hard in this same episode. And maybe the stuff with his father is from the comics, I have no idea about anything there, but suddenly dumping all this backstory on us this late in the season just has me numb. Turns out it was all because he had a cartoon abusive father, don't you care about him now? No, not really. Especially since they don't even have the decency to give the guy an actual comeuppance and just let him walk out to burn down an orphanage and kick some puppies. The Thirteenth Doctor nods in approval.
I also didn't quite feel Natalie's "death" as much as I should have, since it feels so likely that with a whole other episode to go, something will happen to bring her back. At least Lyric gives us some amazing work here, and I definitely won't lessen what you went through there. The show has taken a bit of a downturn in its second half, but I'm still interested to see how this wraps up, so you can call that a win.

Again, we both missed announcements on the release schedule for this show. I read about it days before the premiere when I was verifying what time the show was on, and yelled, “What in the damn hell!?”, so again, no worries there, Jess, especially as we agree on hating the release schedule. There’s likewise no concern if the finale reaction takes some time. You make the update, and you state that you promised to have both reactions out back-to-back. No, you said you’d do your best, that itself is not a promise, so I reiterate that that it’s not a problem if it takes longer than anticipated for the finale reaction. Just have it up when you have it uploaded, and we shall be patient. Now to the episode. “So beautiful, and so sad all at the same time” is a fair description for this one. Likewise, again, shared assessment of this being more emotional than anticipated. We open with the fun action sequence. Never expected this much White Castle product placement in an MCU property. But it all gets a huge laugh. The crew came to fight. They criticize Riri’s late-night fast-food preferences, making me ask, “The implication being that we can’t just settle this over a crave case? No? Mm. Too bad.” Makes me smile how you encouraged the talking yourself. Fight was something, complete with the watch paying off, good reaction there. Love how Riri gets through to Clown about Stuart. She had one damn fine move with Slug and flying the bird. Aaaaand then, she gets sick right afterward, which, well, yeah, having a few sliders before flying is not an advisable course of action. Hear you on not liking what’s happened to Ezekiel. Hell of a thing when, like his father before him, he exhibits such joy over the situation, with his lightning at least. How although Han Solo never had the taste for the hokey religions that those like the Emperor worship, he has to admit, he’s DEEPLY enjoying the UN-LI-MI-TED POWAAAHHH of it all. Nice that there is the shred of humanity when he bullshits about killing Riri. And Riri has to face her mistakes. You, me, I see Ryan has been commenting much the same, all appreciate the running theme of Riri is making many mistakes throughout this show, has her flaws, and explores how she learns and grows from that, if at all. I don’t blame you for the waterworks kicking off in earnest when she goes to her mom for help. Got me fairly good on that part. You could see it in your eyes how it got to you, Jess. Gets us both when we dived into the grief for her dad and Natalie both and how the suit was the coping mechanism. Sweet flashback scene that wounds the soul, or I should say that yeah, it is tough sometimes to think back on fond memories of your dad. Happened to me a few times, happens a fair amount around this time of year, especially with the one anniversary being just around the corner. And now we have the greater context about the suit, and I like how you spoke of that. It is understandable that Riri threw herself into the suit to avoid the harsh reality of the situation. And it is often the way of things when we run from grief. How there are the varied ways of coping, we both spoke to how it was explored with Shirley in Hill House VISCERALLY speaking to our souls. Here, the highlight is the shunning of memories, good or bad. How there are the differing ways of coping, so as to prevaricate the hard reality. It is, as I said, understandable. “At a time of loss, there’s nothing easier than pity and nothing more difficult than the truth, as there are no easy answers for grief.” Is this not so? And it warms the heart that everyone starts coming together to help her. Shared response to Xavier being honest about his feelings regarding Natalie9000, we both liked that part. Then there’s the Hood. I’m all for greater emotional context, villain-wise, and it’s nice to get something, which is not always the case with the MCU. (Looking at you first and foremost, Thor the Dark World.) Makes me think that this is a significant reason why I love you and your channel as we both very much enjoy and live for taking the time to really dive into villainous characters, especially the ones that greatly fascinate us. Here we get the really good scene between the Hood and his dad. See that his dad inquires about the markings that the Hood has. He never does get an answer about it, though I can imagine that he thinks, “Second thought, never mind. My name’s Paul, and that shit’s between y’all.” Now he has the keys to the kingdom, though no one to share it with as the crew smartly bounced, good for them. And he’s got Ezekiel as a meat puppet; we both don’t like that one too much. Sweet how the new suit is built for the car. Alas, it exacts a price. A soul for a soul. The leading lines about that, you surmised, “Foreshadowing for the finale?” and I replied, “Good guess, but actually no.” “Foreshadowing for right now” instead is what we have. Got me good seeing you react to Natalie9000 fading away. And that is how we end this penultimate hour, that scene where thus perished Natalie9000. Reiterate that if the reaction to the finale is not until next Wednesday, not a problem. Come what may, I have enjoyed the journey with this show with you, and this episode is no exception. Thank you so much for the very heartfelt reaction, Jess.
