VEX101 - Generating Curl Noise

Ah! What can be more relaxing than having our copies transformed by everyone's favorite noise - the curl noise? This is the same technique we used to create this course's preview image.

After this one we'll look into how we can combine simple VEX with a bit of math to visualize acoustic patterns.

Cool! Anyway to have them loop?

Might be :) https://entagma.com/constraint-networks-for-rigid-body-simulations/ Cheers, Mo

Great series, thank you for such high quality content. I don't know how to thank you enough. I have a simple question that may not have a simple answer. In the version that you've created for the Intro graphics I notice that your rectangles animated with the curl noise do not intersect each other, are you perhaps combining the attribute wrangle with rigid bodies?

Nelson Noa

Amazing as usual. Maybe for performance and Redshift stylesheet could be a good option using Instance node instead of "copytopoints"? I tried and it works good.

Hi guys — Great tutorial. One question though: I'm not quite sure I understand how the curl noise generates the result it does when we set it to affect the template point's position v@P and not rotation / orientation. The point's stay where they are, so how come the normals rotate? All the best, Andreas

Hi Juan, typically I'd stay inside of Houdini for those kinds of setups. I think what might work could be using a convert-SOP before exporting to alembic, so you'll convert the packed&instanced primitives into geometry. Not sure though - gonna check as soon as I'm back at my workstation. Cheers, Mo

hey guys so how can i pack this into 1 animated alembic object, when i export as alembic i get each object separated its a nightmare for c4d, runs so fast in houdini its a joke. i´ve tried alembic rop but i can´t seem to get all to be 1 animated object. How would i go about this ?

Hallo ENTAGMA, am new to Hudini and have a qustion:

Loving these vex tutes. I still feel like a caveman coding, though.

short and sweet! had a lot of fun using the curl noise function, especially when changing the copies color and pscale over time. made me very happy. thank you!
