Unlike alot of biopics, Ray wanted to be open and brutally real. He did not allow them to play him as a hero. He wanted people to know that he was terribly flawed, had hurt people and been hurt. And that he crawled from the bottom, but he put himself there. He never implied it was anyone elseโs fault that he was an addict. He owned it in a way that showed you that even 40 years later he was STILL working the steps, taking accountability and making amends. The best thing was he was able to coach Jamie Foxx to play him right. And although he died the year the the film came out, he was able to see a screening. It was a beautifully crafted film and deserved every award it won. Especially Jamieโs Oscar.

I want us to reframe the narrative And say they are strong for surviving abuse. Whether they stay or leave, they survive it. Calling women strong for standing by abusive men implies that women who leave are somehow weak. It takes incredible courage to walk away. IMHO. No offense to anyone.๐คทโโ๏ธ
